The term "hunter" doesn't automatically imply ranged, though. Hunting in the real world is often done by spear-point too, though mostly being in the ancient past or in lesser developed regions of the world.

Hunter is a term used on people that hunt....you don't need to be ranged to hunt and most hunters certainly do not have pets....
IMO the coolest thing about the artifact system is that they are laying off some major characters. For example the ashbringer: retri palas are going "back to the Broken Shores where it fell". This was said on the stream. So does this not mean that Tirion either dies or loses hope?
I reckon Tirion will hit the bucket. They say they either lose hope or die, well Tirion isn't the type to give up. Thrall on the other hand...I expect him to run a mile, and hopefully die in the process.
I don't want Thrall to die.
I want to kill him instead.
Same goes for Tirion, and then raise him as a deaht knight.
Meanwhile, apparently Velen isn't a main character in this expansion. He'll just be sitting on Exodar telling others how they should unite against the legion, and dying to the horde because achievement.
Actually IRL it was the Rich or the Noblility who had hunting hound to help them track, since they lacked the skill for it. Reliance on a pet is actually sign of incompetence of a hunter or mark of the fact that someone wants to take the easy path.
I wonder which artifact will be used by warriors. The Broxxigar axe blessed by Cenarius? I can't really think about a weapon which is really linked to our class like Ashbringer to ret palas or Doomhammer to enanch shammies. Maybe Gorehowl but it has already been looted twice in the game, even in a twisted form. Well the same argument may be applied to the Corrupted Ashbringer.. I really don't know. I hope it will be epic.
I imagine Arms is going to get something like Gorehowl. I have no idea what they'd give to Fury or Prot though.
A vrykul 1-hand and shield I believe. This according to WoWheads artifacts guide.
Sad but true. Get your s*** together Blizz..
Ooh killing him does sound more satisfying. Maybe he loses all hope and so everyone sees him for the deadweight he is and allows us to kill him:3
Don't you dare touch my Senpai!:|
Velen is another one that needs to die, preferably in the same style as his AU counterpart. Dying for the greater good and then let AU Yrel come back to Aseroth take over Exodar!
I doubt they would kill Tirion off, he's been off screen for like what, since the finale of Wrath, they can just say he retired and put down Ashbringer again, or he died of old age lol.
About Thrall, I would love to see him dead, at this point pretty sure we're all tired of Green Jesus, and he should die by Guldan's hand, that would be awesome.
As for Velen, he still got that story with Anduin, him being his Priest master and stuff, but would be nice to have Velen fight Kil'Jaeden if he somehow makes it into Azeroth. I would love to see how would it all play out if they were to meet considering the fact that they were close as brothers in the past.
Then again Draenei are low on leaders, they got no candidate to take Velen's spot lol.
Azshara and her naga? Old Gods? Me'dan? An OFFICIAL Emerald Dream expac not the puriftying of Xavius's Nightmare. The humans of Kul Tiras? The Sunspear Trolls? South Seas?
Sargeras isn't the final threat in warcraft. Sorry.
They'll probably set up everything to where they give you their weapon to help you against the might of the Legion and retcon the lore into stating they gave their weapons to the leader of *insert class order here* as a token of their power to finish off the legion.
I actually had this conversation with someone quite recently about this back when the whole "Shadow Hunter" speculation was circling about.
Yes, the term "Hunter" does not restrict to range. Shadow Hunters, he claimed, would be ranged classes that also embodied their weapons with shadow magic and curses, yet with that "speculation" in the mix, Demon Hunters would have been a spec for Shadow Hunters and not a physical class (idk, the internet has a wild imagination). His reply was that was dumb because hunters couldn't be melee and Demon Hunters are more like rogues than hunters anyway. Sounds dumb to me but people base "hunter" of for the class that's been in the game since vanilla so i really can't blame them.

It also doesn't help that pretty much every MMORPG out there has 'Hunter's' as ranged classes, people see that 2 or 3 times and have it cemented that hunters are bow/gun/xbow wielding characters.
