1. Buying a budget gaming pc

    Hi there,

So just a bit of background information, the Last time I built a pc from scratch was around 4 years ago.
I'm not as familiar with the new tech as I actually should be.

What I'd like to know is, will a 500w Power Supply be enough to run this?

    Spoiler: Show

PC Case: NZXT Phantom 410 Gunmetal Special Edition Gaming Case
Power Supply: Antec 500W 80+ High Performance Power Supply
Processor: Intel Core i5-4590 (3.70GHz, 6M Cache, 4x Cores) CPU
Heatsink & CPU Fan: Standard Heatsink & CPU Fan
    Motherboard: MSI H81 Chipset SATA3 6.0Gb/s USB 3.0 MB
Memory: 8GB DDR3 1600Mhz High Performance Gaming RAM
Graphics Card: MSI GTX 960 Gaming Twin Frozr V 2GB Overclocked Card
Sound Card: Integrated 8 Channel HD Audio
Primary Hard Drive: 256GB SSD Upto 500MB/s+ Speed Solid State Drive
Secondary Hard Drive: 1TB WD Blue 7200RPM 64MB Cache HDD

  2. I think so... I think it's more than enough (as in 400W would do the trick), not sure though, someone else might have the correct answer :p

  3. Your system comes out at about 350w

But I'd use 500w minimum, giving you room to upgrade that GPU in the future.

  4. The 500 watts is enough for that build since the 960 is very low on power consumption. The power supply on the other hand is not from the best, and if not absolutely necessary I would not buy the optical drive, but instead invest a bit more in the PSU and get something that is bronze or silver certified. You are not going to get real 500 watts from that PSU, but as I said before, it should be enough to power that system.

    Something like this
    Spoiler: Show
Antec EDGE 750W Fully Modular 80+ GOLD Silent PSU

The optical drive is a standard.
It's a site where they give you a standard pc and you can customize it.
    You can't remove pieces though.

    @Phantom Thank you :)
Thanks a lot for the responses :3

You would be a lot cheaper building it yourself, since these companies normally rob you blind.

  8. Here is couple high-quality PSU.

Old but still good for low budget: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-094-_-Product
This Seasonic is not Haswell compatible, so check this thread: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/answer...ll-states.html

That's usually never a good thing to do (buying from a brand which has a good reputation), remember Acer when it had those problems? Well, Asus at the moment is just as good as any other brand. (I'm saying Asus because people here think Asus = best :D)

  10. While 500w IS going to be enough, you shouldn't buy from not-so-known brands. Go with EVGA or Seasonic (i don't get what Repc means by "not Haswell compatible" tho). Also you should really try and get an r9 280/380, both are way better than the 960.

  11. Actually, dont stare yourself blind on psus. I agree on that you wanna buy something from a decent brand but you really dont have to go for the best there or go total overkill at that either. Most gpus etc are fool proof in their watt recommendations as they know of the **** brands out there that produces psus.

I think some of the "recommendations" in here about 600-800w psus is just pure bull****, you wont be near that consumption for a long time using your setup and wont need if you indeed upgrade some component either.
