1. Is it worth it?

Long-time WoW player, started back in the old days with the Vanilla Beta (my brother got in, so I got to have a character on his account) and have played both private and Blizzard realms on-off for a while. It has been quite some time since I actually endured the x1 rates of the old days, and am just curious if there is anyone else who made the jump from the x7/x5 servers to this and how that transition went.

Also, is it more bearable with a partner? I feel that might keep me from going insane down the line. :P

  2. I'm an old player like you. I quit wow when blizzard introduced the raid finder at cata...it was clear to me that this game (Retail) no longer satisfies me. I have played in many private servers looking for that blizzlike experience. For me the only way to enjoy this game is Servers like Lordaeron (Everything x1) and no custom content from other patches.

If you know how to play your class (i assume you do) you don't need partners, just oin a social guild, do quests, chat in gchat and you will be 80 in no time.

Yeah, after WotLK, I never really found anything in Cata worth going all-in for again, outside of the cinematics and lore bits scattered about.

Hm, maybe I should give it a go again... The one thing I fear more than level grinding is the funds, but who knows. Maybe I'll find a profession to pacify that issue... And guilds are nice and all, but partners help make things less lonely out in the wilds of Azeroth...

Actually the time sink from 10 to 40'ish is probably the worse, but once in Tanaris (or where ever) things start to smooth out for a bit until 55 and then try and run some dungeons if you can, if not I've heard going to hellfire penn and killing the little demons by thrallmar/honorhold is a great amount of xp and you can catch 58, like 3hrs.

Then outlands is a breeze and as "most" of Northrend is bug free you can level there pretty fast and doesn't really slow down until 77/78, but just focus on your quest and you'll be 80 in a few hours.

    /shrug

I didn't mind so much, the real grind is endgame. Getting into heroics isn't that bad, especially if you do your Icecrown quest and run your normal HoL, HoS, UP, and CoS. The problem i've been having is finding a stable community, as a lot of guilds seem to not hang around for to long and eventually fall apart, this in no way is Warmane's fault, but for some reason people just don't know what community is and what it means to be their own guild.

I've been through 5 guilds since i got to endgame and around 10 since level 14 when I joined my first guild and almost all of them fell apart, besides one that just never talked to one another and then another one that was pretty toxic, so i bailed out of that one.

Summary, leveling isn't that bad, endgame and finding a good community is rough.

Any guides you'd recommend for leveling? It's been so long since I was on a Blizzard server that I've forgotten about the "grind" during leveling, or maybe I just blocked it out at some point.

Guilds are failing on the most popular server? Strange, but not too far-fetched, I suppose... Here's hoping there's any left that are willing to accept newcomers.

  6. You can download an addon called Zygors Leveling guide or something if you have trouble with quests/grinding, i haven't used it but some friends of mine use it and they reccomend it.

Don't worry too much about finding a guild.....Your first goal should be to hit 80 and get some pre-raid gear....thats why i said you should join a social/leveling guild. Top guilds don't bother with dungeons and don't have any lowbies to group for dungeons.

Gosh, it's been so long since I did the "normal" dungeons outside of running them for achievements. Perhaps I'll do the ol' Hunter/Druid run to make it bearable on my own. And thanks for the Add-on tip, I forgot I have to go get those after the client is done downloading.

    Alliance or Horde? F'it.

Alliance Elwyn > westfall > Lakeshire > (wetlands for extra xp if needed) > Darkshire (start on your Hillsbradfoot hill quest) @ 30 Start STV and walk on Alterac Mountains quest, finish any hillsbrad quest. > More STV > Arathi Highlands > South STV/Duskwallow Marsh (try and get 40 if not go anywhere you can in kalimdor to get to forty IE: Feralas/Desolace > 40+ Finish all you can in STV > Hinterlands > Tanaris > High 40's Azshara, Felwoods, start Ungoro and Winterspring > 50 Ungoro/Winter Spring/Finish any Hinterland quest > Western Plaquelands > Burning Steppes.

Continue doing every quest you literally can to get yourself to 55 Hellfire and start killing demon's and run any 55'ish dungeon you can.

    Horde

Depends on your race, I know a lot of horde that make their way to Eversong to quest as the questing there is a little smoother and the rewards are a little more rewarding so

Eversong > Tarisfal Glade/Barrens > Hillsbrad/stonetalon mountains > 30'ish STV Arathi from here things get about the same as alliance so i'll leave it at that.

But as horde you'll bounce a little between Kalimdor/Barrens and Eastern Kingdom/Tarisfal to push 30, so its completely doable to stay in your traditional horde starting zones if you don't wanna make the trip to silvermoon city.

Also at 55 if you so choose:

Finish Un'goro > Silithus > Eastern Plaquelands > finish any winterspring quest > Southern part of Burning Steppes.

Outlands, just do every quest you can til around 66 and then hit up nagrand and get Ring of Blood out of the way and all the other elite quest can easily push you to 68 and then Northrend.

For some reason I always do Borean Tundra > Dragonsblite > Grizzly Hills > Zul Drak > Sholozar > Stormpeaks > icecrown.

do all quest and you should hit 80 somewhere between SP and IC.

@ 77 you can get NR flying, I suggest going to Borean Warsong Hold/Valiance Keep as it can be around 500g cheap for epic flying and dalaran has your Cold Weather Flying for a 1000g.

Hope that helped and talk care, good luck.

  9. It took me a little longer then I expected to ding 80 but it was worth it as almost all quests are scripted. Much faster then vanilla x1. Try the Cartbonite addon for lvling, really made it a breeze.
    RESTED EXP IS THE LIGHT!
and having a friend to play with never hurts

Really? Faster than Blizzard servers. huh?
I've heard of that addon before, but never knew what it was for. I'll try it.
And yeah, I think it would, which is why I've stopped until I can find someone to run with. Till then, I'll get my mind back in the game with some Deathwing.

  11. well you have to keep in mind lvling is faster than Vanilla because the exp required to lvl 1-60 was halved with BC's release, and then 60-70 was halved because of Wraths release.

We're also on 3.3.5 so talents make lvling a breeze and you don't have to eat and drink after every 2nd mob kill.

Obviously 70-80 is blizzlike, so it's still a little bit of a grind if you play casually. But 1-70 is ez pz.
