The last couple of weeks the population feels lower than ever and I feel like something must be done in order to keep the realm going. I debated with some friends for a while and some ideas came up:
- Make the realm a one-faction realm, there's no point in having Alliance and Horde as there is not enough players in either of them for any aspect of the game (either PvP orPvE), yes I know that batttegrounds would end BUT they can be scripted as Rated Battlegrounds are intended to work as in each faction can fight itself, this way the battleground lovers could keep grinding their honorable kills and the PvE community of both factions could merge somehow.
- In order to make the previous idea to work properly there would be a need to provide free Faction Changes on Neltharion, to which faction? Well I believe it could be decided with a website pool, I know PvPers would prefer playing on Alliance Side but thats something that can be worked on as PvP is not even doable (arenas) if only 10% of the population is tyring.
Yeah I know this idea might look ******ed to some but well imo it's the only way to do something about the lack of popullation I know for a fact some Horde players want to come to Alliance in order to play with some friends on Alliance side but voting 10 characters over is just painful and takes a LONG TIME so yeah maybe something could be done similar to what i've suggested above in order to keep Cataclysm going. terrible idea, non sense at its best. IMO and probably in opinion of hundreds of more people WoW would be pointless with only one faction, you and your friends must be auti*ts if u think this would work

Your idea is not totally bad but its not going to work. WoW is a game where two factions fight agaisnt each other. Arenas and PvE would not have any problem with that but the game would lose its sense.

Terrible idea without any sense. Now we see impact of constant ignores across years, and its mostly Warmane's fault. Only thing that can revive Cataclysm is to fix those damn bugs but we all know how long can it take (gurthalak game breaking bug for paladins etc in-game for 5 months+).

This idea of yours would most definitely not work or be as easy to implement even "IF" it were ever to be considered. That is because according to what you typed and I quoted it seems as if you missed some key stuff. The developers would have to do TONS of rework(If they even can. I have no idea) on achievements that require you to be on horde/Alliance side or quests or achievements that require you to kill horde/Alliance faction players. All faction specific mounts will now have to all be open for the chosen faction. What about people that like Horde/Alliance races? Now developers will have to find a way to deal with that. Being able to let the one chosen faction have the other 5 opposing races selected. This post could be longer and I could go on, but you get the idea. It is far too much work. Not to **** on the developers since they make have other tasks as well, but imagine if they can't fix Cataclysm bugs all around... why would they put all the effort into this?

Here's a real good suggestion: Make a progressive Cataclysm Realm and try to control a bit more the donations to be a fair game with the non donors.

I think the best things to improve are small fixes at this moment, just those annoying things that make people quit for the day (and, eventually for good).
Dungeons being broken by the new anti-cheat (vortex pinnacle, tol'vir), broken by the new evade mechanism (stonecore) are easily fixed. The harder to fix issue would probably the wow-errors and client crashes, aswell as server crashes.
If those things are fixed, the casual player will be alot happier already. Things like 1 faction realm would not be needed then :)

You know a sugestion that really would bring back Neltharion. The same thing they did in Lordaeron.
Make a x1 no donors realm for CATA... in Warsong. With the new added dungeons for lvling i am certain you would have a huge amount of new players to join. Warsong is pretty dead like Neltharion is walking too.
A lot of ppl think that Wrath is the expansion of WOW, some think the same about CATA. I would gladly join a fresh realm where ppl would be progressing together and pvp would be also fresh.
I went back to Wrath...In Lordaeron just a pain to lvl without RDF, for ppl like me with few hours to spare, having to walk to each instance is too time consuming. In Icecrown, well PVP is just ridiculous, one shot- 2shot...if MOP is CC heaven, Wrath in Icecrown with all the heroic gear and lolmournes make the pvp not enjoyable to say the least.
Would be nice if fans of CATA would back this idea...i would rather have a full server with ppl eager to gear pve or do pvp than counting the stones on OG or SW. I wouldnt mind losing my geared chars in Neltharion for that.

I dont really mind the realm as it is. I know it seems to be popular opinion these days to moan about the updates rather than be grateful that at least SOMETHING has changed.
I have been pretty thrilled over the past few weeks to be able to experience old content that simply wasn't available before. ( Im a noob to wow and started with Cata here back before moltdown when it was Frostwolf.
Of course there are alot of bugs, but lets make a difference from bugs that affect the entire gameworld ( unscripted dungeons, unavailable content) compared to bugs that make a certain class a bit less powerful compared to others. Ohh..DS is broken now? Guess what....anyone that cared about it had been farming it for MONTHS before. My fire mage doesnt dominate like it does on retail? LOL.
The notion that CATA should be a 1x realm is ridiculous considering we all know they are not going to put in the work to make that happen and actually work. Would it be nice? Yeah. Will they do it,or should they? No.
However I will say...a CATA realm with barely 50% of the cata areas unscripted, bugged, cant get quests...they dont even work...etc is an area of start. Cant even get to Vashir via portal..sea mount unavailable, ( which as a scuba diver bums me out because swimming in vashir with no sea mount is just bull****) deepholm empty...Hyjal with quests unavailable that are needed to open dailies? ON a cata server...as much as old content is awesome and appreciated...the CATA content should be a priority IMO.
