I do not play to win.

Just thought I'll start a discussion on the topic of playing to win, instead to have fun.

What attitude do you have? Personally, I couldn't give less f*cks about winning as long as I'm having fun with whatever I'm playing. However, it kind of saddens me that so many people just play so they can win and be better.

For those players, have you asked yourself this question?:

What are you going to achieve by winning and being the best, except of a pointless and stupid boost to your ego?

The way I see it, you either win and are happy, or you lose and become unhappy. Whereas in the other type of attitude, if you win, you're happy and having fun, but the same goes for losing - you're still happy and having fun.

For example: I would rather play a Shockadin (Holy/Ret) PVP and get wrecked 24/7 but at least be unique and different, than play a Retribution paladin and be like literally every single other paladin on the server.

Some people only have fun when they win. I agree with you though. After winning so much, winning becomes boring. Now I find myself seeking out alternate things to do. Things that are fun to do. What bothers me is when people are so misguided by their own desire to win, that nothing else matters to them. Not even the wellbeing of their fellows.

go play single player games then. or dont joing bgs or raids to ruin other's fun. bgs are already full of morons who dont know what to do.

As horde's main strategy on icecrown consists in forming one big-*** zerg-ish cluster**** and then roam around the bg I pretty much gave up on winning random (solo-queue) battlegrounds and try to get into 1v1/1v2 situations, explore the bg or (ATTENTION BOYS!) try to get the objectives as my whole team only goes for HK farming or getting farmed.

Where is this hostility coming from? What are you even mad about?

Exactly what I'm talking about. So if somebody doesn't know what to do, he's a moron, if I understand correctly?

People give importance to different things and that is what makes people get fun out of different situations and objectives. But it is important that people understand that and don't try to obligate others to do what they think is right because what is right or wrong really depends on the person opinion and since there is no law in the game, except that is forbidden to use bots an things like that, you can't really say that what the others are doing is wrong and what you do is right.
This is a game and since you get fun without breaking the rules that is what matters, some people just need to focus more on themselves and stop pointing out everything they think is wrong and get mad because of it.

you can play for lols and have fun, but the right question is: does the game allows people to have fun?

on a game with a completely random matchmaking that doesnt measure individual skills, doesnt care about roles and place BiS players against gearing players, sometimes matching BiS premades against a team of 5 rogues and 5 hunters, all random undergeared

i see no reason to take it seriously, unless you are playing 3s
an game where RNG system has influence deciding who wins and who loses, regardless having a minimum influence or stupidly high, no game involving RNG should be taken seriously

i dont blame people for playing FoTM scummy classes, for playing premades facerolling undergeared
if the game allows people to do that, its 100% blizzard's fault for designing this problematic system, rewarding people for being scums

You can still try to win and the few times you win with all odds against you -> Leicester winning the Premier League, Iceland beating England and so on, the victory is so sweeter

If people dont lose they would never get to know what winning feels like right ? Because if people only win every time they wouldnt know any different and it just be like meh won again. We all need to lose to want the urge to try again to win i think.

But again, you're seeing things from the "I'm playing to win" mentality. If I don't care about winning, I sure as hell don't care about RNG and matchmaking and whatnot.

My satisfaction and fun comes from fighting a player, not killing him. It also comes from casting a spell, not finishing the spell so I can see the damage. It doesn't come from winning, but from playing.

It always feels bad when you loose, but it never feels good if you win.

Some people have fun winning you know.. :d
The more you win the more confident you are, everyone sees differently.

Lemme get this straight. You dont like winning, only playing. What about gear? How do you gear up? How do you gate your ratings up in arena? How do you get honor? What mentality do you propose we use? Play to lose? You get satisfaction from casting the spell but not finishing it? Wheres the point in that? Why dont you go to training dummies or farm mobs all day then? And you get satisfied by getting wrecked in pvp? Try getting good at pvp and maybe youll start feeling the satisfaction of winning :P.

You don't understand me in the same way in which a fly doesn't understand a spider, or a monkey doesn't understand a human.

"You get satisfaction from casting the spell but not finishing it? Wheres the point in that? " - The point is in having fun casting the spell and not giving a f*** about the outcome of that action.

It's the same as sitting on a bench in a park (not doing anything besides sitting). You might ask yourself, what is the point in that? However, some people enjoy sitting just as much as they enjoy anything else.

It's the goal-oriented mindset that won't let you see the beauty of the action, of the path, of the progress, rather than that of the result.

It's the goal-oriented mindset that will lead humanity to it's doom since we all seem to chase that " end result " and get there as soon as possible, not realizing it's death we're getting closer to.

A real life example: A person spends 30 years building a business, which is successful in the end. Then that person, in an advanced age gets to enjoy the fruits of their hard work - but do they, really? Or do they just suffer a bit more, and then die?

This is the same; players are trying to be the best, compete with each other, win and get geared, but for what? When you have all the gear and you're the best, what's the point?

    What have you won?

Haven't you just exchanged days, months, maybe years of fun for mindless ladder-climbing?

In other words: I will have 50 000 fun memories of casting a holy light - because I had fun doing that.
You, on the other hand, will have 50 000 memories of being really bored, tired, just grinding, climbing the ladder, getting better, farming mats, gold and maybe one or two memories of victory when you finally reach that rating, or get that gear. Bear in mind every single one of my memories of " casting holy light" have (for me) the very same (or greater) value as your victories.

You tell me which one is better.

Don't get me wrong, though. I like winning. Only, I take it as a side-effect of playing. A nice addition. Added value. I like it when I win, it feels Great, but I'm just as happy when I lose. If you're playing to win, you're missing out on 99% of the game/fun.
