Maybe you have some addon which causes ur fps to drop.

If it were the addons that caused the problem, I shouldn't get 200 FPS in 15vs15 bgs.
P.S. And yes, I have tried with all the addons disabled. FPS difference is less than 5 in raid situation.

The interesting part to me is d3d9ex causing even bigger issues, it really shouldnt because thats just the Cata engine, so would I get no fps if I played Cata? I tried OpenGL and it was slightly worse than Directx 9.
OpenGL is meant to be used for Macs and Linux or development on Windows, not for actual playing. My wow crashed with OpenGL, which is normal.
And yes, I totally agree why we get EXTREME fps drops with it.
P.S. Hey, btw if you want to look into solutions together and share come to discord and chat. Will definitely be faster to interact.
I do have similar settings and can't get the same FPS (although your specs seem much better than mine, specifically the GPU and CPU). Really whats most interesting to me right now are the issues with d3d9ex.
Cymbaw, if you adding SET gxApi "d3d9ex" into config.wtf, you should also considering to add SET gxTextureCacheSize "your video card memory in mbytes". Try to experiment with SET processAffinityMask, look at numbers at http://wowwiki.wikia.com/wiki/CVar_processAffinityMask. Also add SET timingMethod "0". Would like to see your full config.wtf file too, if you don't mind. Some "tweaks" only break your client.
Taking pictures in dalaran doesn't mean a lot. Especially with less than 10 people in your view. I can stay in dalaran with 130 FPS and more and still drop below 40 in a 25m raid. And it's even gotten worse with one of the server updates 2-3 weeks ago.
The picture in dalaran was showing my settings for the most part, my mouse happened to be on the menu when I took the screenshot. When it comes to raiding I don't have any significant fps loss either.
@op It is definitely something wrong on your end, you should make sure all of your drivers are up to date including direct x. I haven't had issues running this server since the Molten days and that was back in 2014. If all else fails, redownload warmane.

You don't even see your FPS in your UI w/o hovering your main menu bar. And according to your achievements you don't even raid a lot.
Take a look at this series of pictures illustrating how the number of people in sight is affecting the fps. I used your settings to do this.
On a side note, I can add that even with Ultra settings the numbers don't change this much for me. And this makes a lot of sense. The game can't max out a modern GPU, but it can drain a CPU as the WotLk client is absolutely poorly optimized for multi-threading (like anyone0 already pointed out) and thus the modern CPUs don't have a real advantage.
This explains a lot about issues on my hand at least. i7 6700 HQ with GTX 960M 16 gb ddr4, but barely 30 FPS on 25men raids no matter the graphics quality. (I tried. On everything maxed out, I had 30-ish. Everything low as dirt clays moving around, still 30-ish.)
What a frustration seriously. I wonder why D3D9EX thing doesnt even work for me either. Tried compatibility mode to Windows 7 but doesnt really do much.
You can even search for those issues on the official blizzard forums and find similar problems and explanations up till 2013. The game already was (for us "is") supporting multiple cores, but isn't creating enough threads. So, it doesn't change a lot if 90% of the game is handled by 1 thread and 3 meaningless ones are directed to your other cores.
Btw Ben why are u even here.. 173 FPS amg

Well your config pretty normal, although you have gxRefresh set to 60. Laptop? Try higher value (if your display can handle it, values above 60 (140-144) only working in fullscreen mode (so you will need to set gxWindow, windowResizeLock and gxMaximize to 0). "Please note that enabling Windowed mode will result in a DECREASE in fps in-game" - from wowwiki. Also game can reset your 120-144 refresh rate to 60 sometimes, so making config.wtf "read-only" solves the problem (although you won't be able to save any future video/audio changes made in game while config.wft is "read-only").
SET gxTextureCacheSize "6144" only works if SET gxApi "d3d9ex" presents in config.wft file. SET ffxGlow is "1" or "0", not "01". SET maxFPS can be safely set to "200". Play with SET processAffinityMask (0 or 15, see if something will change). If you like to use farclip values over 1250 you have to add SET overridefarclip "1".
Should probably give you the config.wtf I use (w.o. account information ofcourse), so you can look if your problem hiding in game settings. First Let's see if something I posted will help.
