So you are just a douchebag then, happy that that is clear now. No point is discussing stuff like this with someone who really is of the opinion that helping others in a MMORPG is something bad.

And giving them gold to get started is like buying them a fishing rod. No one is saying outland and northrend flying and the rest of your skills ough to be payed for by begging, you can earn that gold easily yourself, just for the start you need a bit of help - so you can actually start to fish instead of trying to catch them with your bare hands.
And all I'm saying is that while it's nice, once you start to expect it, think you deserve it, and get upset at others for not giving you the gold, you cross the line into entitled behavior that makes me not want to help -anyone- else.
Moral heroes back @ it again. Just leave it be. If somebody ask you kindly for 50g, is the same thing as somebody asking 2 cents at the supermarket because he/she is just that little short to pay the bill.
Or do you? Do we really need a fishing rod to catch the fish (riding/skill/gear)? What makes you think he will buy the rod when he can be given just enough to buy the fish? And you don't really need the rod for start, you can just use your bare hand (quests/professions/mobfarming/gray-vendoring/etc.) before working up to using a rod.
It's called progression. It's harder, but more satisfying and rewarding in the long run. That's why we study for school exams instead of asking friends for answers. Sure you get good scores, but will it help you later? No.
So that means 70/80% of the entire server are douchebags right? People have to mandatorily give gold so they won't be called as douchebags huh?
Lazy peon.
Did i ever say that? I said he is a douchebag due to the following statement "i don't help anyone outside of a guild if i'm in 1. if you can't do it yourself than you don't deserve the reward for doing it.".
If you dont give gold to new players that doesnt make you a douche (although it means you arent very nice if you have enough gold but vOv), refusing flat out to help any player at all does.

There is a difference between helping a player and giving in to a gold beggar. If a person has time to beg for gold they can go vendor trash from the world, or at the very least work for it. It'll teach them to be actually productive members of Warmane. This is World of Warcraft not World of Beggars.
I replied to a very specific post of him in which he said the following in regard to the following question:
"Or are you against high level players helping out low level player in general too?"
The answer to this was:
"i don't help anyone outside of a guild if i'm in 1. if you can't do it yourself than you don't deserve the reward for doing it"
You can see clearly that he states that he refuses to help any player at all in this game. This is why i called him that, not because he thinks its wrong to give new players gold. Its on the previous page if you want to have a look.
I don't give a **** to what you were replying to originally and what they said. My reply was to you in general. Get over it or take your pathetic argument to a PM.
He's not wrong though. Just because you think someone is worth giving charity to, doesn't mean they've earned it. Insisting that he takes kindly to begging is being a bit more rude than he is. As for him being helpful? He's helpful all the time, particularly on the forum here where he shares the knowledge he's obtained, by reading the forum, with newer/less-frequent members. You cannot go and insult someone because they refuse to help others using materials they've worked for and expect it not to get slung back in your face. romz is probably right in that you should take it to PM.
Then why quote that specific post if you dont care, makes no sense.
helping them do something that cannot be solo'd is one thing. helping someone do something simply because they are to lazy to do it themselves is something entirely different.
and if encouraging others to be self sufficient makes me a douchebag than so be it. would rather have it that way than to encourage them to turn into a lazy player that relies on others for everything.
anyways it's getting old repeating myself, and the op's question was answered long ago. won't be postin here anymore.
Pick a profession, Id say Herbalism (Less people picking up plants, that people picking up minerals), and just pick the plants you come across, gather a stack or two, place them in the AH (undercut the price a bit so it sells faster) and then you get enough for your skills, mounts and even some glyphs (depends of how much you sell), this can be repeated as you level, and it will pay off (remember at 40 you get 100% riding that is 60g iirc)
I have used this method since forever on my characters :)
one stack of 30+ lvl herbs costs as TBC flying mount
only really lazy people beg for gold here, and they do not deserve any gold
