I have a question, I read in the rules that it is against conduct to open a gold/item gambling casino ingame, since the chance of scamming is high. My question is, is it against the rules if me and my Irl friends/family roll on gold ingame to pass the time between dungeon queues, is this the same as opening a casino or is it allowed? the reason i ask is because the rules say u cant open a casino/advertise in public chat about it, but it didnt say anything about gold rolling between friends. I would just like to know, as i dont wanna get banned for gambling with my brother. thx for reading and have a nice day :D
p.s sry if the last sentance sounded dickish, english is not my first language so i couldnt come up with any better wording :D
Anyone can claim they were "just doing it to pass time with IRL friends/family" when they get caught, so I'd expect you to be treated the same as people who claim "it was my little brother" when they get banned for using hacks.
Obnoxious is quick to assume you are not, in fact, gambling only with your friends/family and are using this thread as a token for the ban appeal.
I myself haven't read the warmane ToS, but considering they are taking pride in being blizzlike, I'll assume same rules about gambling apply here as they do on retail.
Yes, gambling with your friends/family is allowed. What's not allowed is, as you said, advertising in public channels in an effort to draw fellow gamblers(or potential victims).
Also, I'd like to recommend the addon Texas Hold'em. It's an addon that lets you play poker with your party members. its pretty fun when played for high enough stakes. :p
Then you probably should, clearly. It would save you from awkwardness and from potentially leading players to get banned over talking about subjects you don't know and don't bother informing yourself about.
Our rule is ""Casinos": Creating ingame casinos to let people roll for gold or other ingame good is forbidden. Those games end up most of the time as scams and are therefor forbidden." No caveats, no "if it isn't advertised, it's fine," no "doing it in your own guild or group is fine."
He isn't talking about running a casino though, he's just referencing it because it's the closest thing to what he's talking about.
He just wants to sit around and /roll, whoever gets the highest roll wins and the loser coughs up the bet (or whatever rules they are using).
Please read the initial question more thoroughly to give a correct answer.
Unless you're telling me if I run around Stormwind yelling "DEATHROLL ME 1K GO THE DISTANCE" will get me banned, in which case I'm not sure what the world is coming to.

I gave him a correct answer. This isn't about calling it a casino or not, it's about "let(ting) people roll for gold or other in-game good." If anyone in the same group sees it, for example, screenshots it and makes a report, he's liable to get a ban. The GM who reads the report might decide to give a warning, might look more into it, or might just issue a ban, as "rolling for gold or other in-game goods" as gambling prizes is against our rules. Claiming that it was "just among friends and family" could maybe work on a ban appeal, but that would already be after being banned usually for over a week (as appeals get the least priority).
No caveats, no "if it isn't advertised, it's fine," no "doing it in your own guild or group is fine."
In that case, I have a confession to make. I've been a bad bad boy.
For real tho, if you find yourself in a situation where you have to report someone, or get reported yourself, then you should be punished as you obviously didn't do it in a private party with friends and family.
Even thought you're being a little... obnoxious, i'm imaging you telling us "Casinos are not allowed under any circumstance!" and then winking.
*wink* *wink*

It's not called "Casino" it's called gamble.
As for OP no GM will ever come and check out you guys if you decide to roll for gold between yourselves, you will only get banned if someone reports you for it.
as "rolling for gold or other in-game goods" as gambling prizes is against our rules.
That's kinda what a raid is all about though, it's a gamble with the rolls, people rolling for items, BoE's, Recipes.
"Casinos" as everyone wrongfully calls it was made banable by "Warmane" because there was a lot of people doing it openly in Orgrimmar / Stormwind / Dalaran, and several of them scammed people, so instead of dealing with the tickets they just made a rule so they can instantly ignore the tickets regarding this matter, thus saving time to do, other stuff...
Look at it like this; you have heard both sides of the situation OP, if you decide to continue to do it, understand you are taking a risk and that it can result in a forced vacation. The choice is yours.
