Been leveling lately in Icecrown and have observed that ganking is getting a bit out of hand, so I thought I'd just offer my opinion. This is a game, and every player should have as peasant as experience as possible. Let me share mine.
Ganking was allowed in retail, and this is a Blizz-like server, so it is allowed here. I get that.
Does that mean that I like ganking? This may be shocking to some, but no, I don't enjoy being one-shot repeatedly by 80s while leveling. Or having to wait for a quest giver to respawn. Sure, the ganker might have fun. Not so much the dozens of 70s in Hellfire Peninsula or Zul'Drak he kills every few minutes. So in terms of fun for all, the net balance is not really that positive. I used to love Zul'Drak in retail. Next time I level, I'll avoid it. It's a pity, because Warmane's devs did a great job scripting it. And forget about doing the arena quests, lately.
Does that mean that I agree with gannking? Of course not, I never thought it should be allowed in retail, and for the same reason, I wish it weren't allowed here. I loved world PvP, when it was actual PvP, not instadeath. But ended up playing in PvE servers to avoid ganking, paying the price of renouncing to world PvP. We don't have an option here, it's a single PvP server. Perhaps the war mode enabled in BfA or something discouraging ganking a little bit could be done.
And ganking is getting out of control in Icecrown. Because of the high population, and the potential for a single ganker to ruin the fun for lots of lowbies, it's becoming *far* more prevalent than it was in retail.
So even if you argue in favor of replicating retail's experience, keeping the same rules under different circumstances doesn't guarantee the same end result.
Would love some healthy world PvP, but being ganked just sucks. It ruins part of the fun for the majority of players leveling. Simple as that.
Then again, just my humble opinion.
