So it just occurred to me that PvP in Wrath is very gear dependant, I had never played Warmane until recently as I have been on the Blizzard Classic client and someone told me to go play some arenas on WM while i'm leveling to get a feel for my class.
I boot up an Arms Warr as that is my main on Classic, go on Blackrock and set up addons and bars/macros and initially going into BGs felt fine until I realized there were people there with almost 10k+ more HP than me doing double my damage and i'm barely even scratching some of them.
I went into solo queue as well and maybe a game or two i'd be able to contribute until I found someone again who was overgeared and just melted through me.
The problem with Classic WoW is the Community in PvE, it is very gate keeper-esque and drama fueled due to an abundance of Loot Council guilds and GDKPs that essentially convert RMT gold to gear.
I do not think I will ever be in a position to get any of the gear that some of these other people on Warmane have, the guild i'm in is Loot Council for example and i'm like 5th on the line to get that epic Bryntoll (spelling?) weapon from Naxx, and by the time I hit the phases with ArP i'm most likely not going to get that either for a long, long times.
So I want to ask this question once and for to clear up any misconceptions:
Is WotTLK PvP gear dependant on PvE gearing and is it just useless to pick a psec like Arms if i'm not going to be able to pick up the PvE pieces?
I personally don't plan on raiding full time as I have a job and kids, and I primarily PvP so I don't want to be hampered down by some gear grind.
i mean obviously gear matters. always. no matter the expansion.
is wrath gear pve gear dependent in pvp.?
for classic wrath in general. no. I have pvp characters in full pvp and full pve. they both do fine. both have advantages and disadvantages.
for arenas specifically, 50/50.
for arms warriors. a little bit. alot of your AP comes from pve gear. which ofcourse makes you do big numbers.
but pvp always has been about "skill"
if you can press your buttons better than your opponent. you will more than likely win, regardless of who has the best gear.
another thing is to just be mindful of the fact that you're lacking in gear.
if you rush into a fully BIS person thinking that you are full BIS aswell, even tho you have no pieces higher than 232ilvl. you're gonna have a bad time.

So would Arms warrior be worth pursuing as a PvP main if I don't really plan to PvE at all? I just don't want to be put in a position where I level this dude to 80 only to regret it cause some other guy raid gear and can out DPS me despite playing worse.
Like I know you said skill matters more, which is true I 100% agree but TBC has shown me that gear can also help trash players climb higher than they should be because it can also play a huge role in forgiving their mistakes as gear can carry them hard.
even without pve pieces. its still very good.
if you can get some 3s going and get the Elite weapon. that should be on par with heroic items from ICC.
you will need to do pve regardless tho just to get a good DPS trinket.
every class will need some pve pieces to be the most efficient in pvp. I dont think there's any class that can go full pvp and not be at a disadvantage.
maybe mage or rogue but that's about it.
if arms warrior has always been your main, just roll with it. you'll be fine.
at the end of the day. its still just a game. just have fun with it.

This early in to the classic wrath, its mostly going to be pve geared players youre going against as hateful pvp gear is complete trash. Later on, for arms warrior, you'll want PvE off items like 1 or both trinkets, depending on your race, boots/belt/cloak/bracers PvE and the 4 set PvP gear for the increase to resilience.
For example, when ICC patch comes out, youll want to be using DBW/STS for trinkets, either Coldwraith Links or the leather belt from Proff, 2 ARP rings, an ARP neck like Lanathels Chain/Cruel Claw, Australyas bracers and then 4 set Wrathful/Relentless gear and the 5th piece youll want Aldrianas Gloves
I wanted to play warrior as my main but changed my mind exactly for this reason. Warrior is too much gear dependant because most of his damage comes from armor penetration which is only on PVE items.
