Foresight always keeps veteran players alive...
I do have to say, that whilst I disagree with so much, some of it rings true, very accurately.
The notion that 100k turning in to 25k wouldn't happen without the squish or an astonishing solution to gold sinks is slightly ridiculous. Without the squish, the value of the effective 100k would be 25k, even if the number is bigger without it, the value of items would just keep infinitely rising.
Creating massive convoluted systems to artificially fix what is the biggest issue game economies have isn't implemented in anywhere else either because of one simple reason. They're not intuitive, and if they're not intuitive and people see their gold go down each day, they will riot and even refuse to play ball. Simplistic one off situations are much easier to stomach and explain to someone who's willingness to learn and understand are low.
What is very true is, that this isn't as solution, this is a forced reaction. This is a reaction to an issue that plague all MMO's that stand any test of time. The sinks are often quite temporary (there's only so many scrolls one will buy) and the cuts can be only in so many places and often, without being too intrusive.
I, whilst being largely affected by it, massively agree with the 40% cut to raw gold gains that happened ( rates went from 5x to 3x). Someone already alluded to them as 33%, but I believe them to be more.
The most punishing effect this has is to the richer players, many of which can or have the knowledge to try and game the system, but regardless, someone losing 2k to someone losing 200k is very much not measureable in effort. The player with less assets and gold is even more protected with ingame sinks such as mount buying, bags and other luxuries. Unless the person with 200k has 20 alts with missing epic flying of course.
This indeed is taking a hammer to a problem and forcing it, very inelegant. But the hammer is effective, and it's kept warmanes economy is somewhat of working condition. With the additional value changes in gold tables and loot tables, it should even better tackle the issue.
Anyways, enjoy selling 10 titansteel bars to gain a fast flying for your main, use it. Think of the ways it serves you, don't get too attached to the 1000gold you made on your leveling journey, think ahead.
I would like to point out that it is not the amount of gold in circulation that is the problem, but the prices on the AH that this situation causes. Cutting gold for quests or grinds mainly hits new players who have nothing. Those who have wealth, either in gold or mats, will quickly return to monopolize the market by buying and selling goods. A 50% reduction in gold alone is only a temporary solution from the category of the lesser evil.
There is another solution, a bit cheeky. In order to control the prices of individual items, let the administration set a maximum price for each specific material/item and next to the auctioneers put a vendor with an unlimited amount of the above at that price. People will stop listing these things more expensively because then everyone will be able to buy them cheaper from the vendor. Unlike AH, the purchased item will take 100% of its price in gold out of circulation instead of just tax. Just make sure that the prices are high enough to make it worthwhile to farm and sell the item yourself. The only noticeable drawback is that this solution is not “blizzlike”, but in fact none is.
(writes another post because I don't see an edit option)
I just wanted to add that you don't even need to create a new npc, I've thought about it and all you need is a script for auctioning items on the AH, which has the ability to put up new auctions right after the sale with no limit on goods. This way is even less conspicuous, which makes it seem even better.
That's the most ****ed up thing I have ever seen, kill the spirit of game, kill player to player interaction, kill everything to achieve, I don't even know what you mean, lesser prices or something?
Thing don't have to be cheap or expensive, its actually irrelevant which way it is. What is important is "reasonable" path for players to get their spells/dual talents/ mounts/enchants and gems. So it's not too easy or hard. As I understand squish exists to keep this at a certain level, which means "healthy economy" in Warmanes book. They are not interested in stable market(which it would become without squishes). Nerfing gold drops seems to be of interest, maybe encouragement for player to player trading? Making sure people don't store wealth in gold seems to be important, tough since mandatory 2fa is it actually relevant? Making environment where few people can get unbelievably rich(in a way where players are basically your slaves) seems to be important.
It's just a bunch of smoke, why do they leave these topics open, it's irrelevant anyway whats said here, I don't get it.
We have years and years of long-lasting servers showing that's a lie.
I mean, on x10 gold drop cardinal ruby was 5k and 4 years later it was still 5k... wasn't it?
Also, after first squish literally nothing changed and next one was came in package with gold reduction rates.
does gold squish count for active characters or it include all warmane players(inactive and also active both)?
"The gold squish means that every piece of gold that exists in circulation, be it in the character's inventory, mailbox, guild bank, website trading system or otherwise, will be simply halved. "
ALL gold.
Thank you for your reply. I'm glad Warmane didn't do this. Banned is banned for a reason. ?
"The inactivity cleanup and gold squish will be conducted and completed on March 03, 2025"
Are You ready? Remember to cancel all auctions, clean up mail, stack up as many mats as You can. Spend the rest of gold for skills, glyphs, pets, mounts etc. I can prodly say that on my account there is only 2g 26s and 98c left.
So warmane squish me, squish harder!
