A few days ago I was in an RDF and a player pressed "need" for all BoE uncommon items. I made a ticket in game (ninja rules) and got a response, it shocked me.
So according to this answer he is not considered a ninja. In case I also need boe and get banned, how much would this answer help me to get unbanned?
I would appreciate if we could get an official reply from a staff person.
Bear in mind that uncommon and rare are different things.
I know. I meant pressing need roll only for boe green items (uncommon). According to the answer I received in the ticket, I am not breaking any rules i guess.
I'd like to see the actual ticket (links & names blocked out) OP sent.
I doubt GM would go saying any green equipment items would be free rolls. This would go against the ninja policy by allowing anybody to need roll on any green equipment they see.
We will only issue ninja looting in dungeons bans if the item in question is of the same or higher itemlevel as that found in the heroic endgame dungeon after you defeat a boss. Virtually all endgame uncommon items are of a lower itemlevel spare the exception where uncommon items might be of a similar or close enough quality is earlier level dungeons and those situations are treated differently. Now, if you were to roll need on a BoE epic such as Je'Tze's Bell or other WoTLK epic world drops we will issue a ban for that if you rolled need on that without being of proper spec to use it while in that dungeon or don't actually need it, you should be rolling greed for it at that point. The reason for this is because it's the same itemlevel as the epics in that dungeon spare frozen halls and TotC and even then it's still high enough to get your character into endgame raiding content. If you need uncommon items of WoTLK quality you can find them in the world just by doing quests or killing world mobs.
As stated by OhieMitzen lockboxes and books are free rolls typically, especially lockboxes where anyone with a skeleton key can open those.
So is it considered ninja or not for green items if I have a better item than the one I rolled - the purpose is to be sold or disenchanted i think.
i know the ninja rules for BoE epic or rare - if the item it s higher than i have of course i m going need for that but only for the item i can wear.
As far as a ninja policy that's probably fine. It's a little silly reporting and issuing bans over green items. The action of needing on greens that you don't need though is not how the game was meant to work.
Players will use greed/disenchant on items they don't need logically and only need on items they actually need. That's the expected behavior. A player breaking that rule is just bad etiquette and players I've seen do it get kicked from dungeons. That's the actual consequence that should happen.
As far as BoE epics go though players will almost always universally agree to all need on that item without even saying. Mainly for the value of it to sell. That's where it actually does get tricky. Because you can run into an item that is an upgrade for someone. Most times players respect the roll anyway although every now and again you get someone complaining. You hope Battered Hilt drops, but at the same time you're like I don't know how that one plays out.

It took few hoops, but now people aren't going to ninja them as all are allowed to need roll on those as there are no bans coming for those. Call it leveling the playfield. Yes, it's bad etiquette, just like it was before ninja bans being issued over those. Now if somebody rolls need, you can too, you don't have to worry about winning and getting ban yourself, nor do you have to spend several minutes making a report over a green item. Back to square 1.

You can always wait to be last one to roll and roll what fits your conscience. Others needed? Well you can do too without fear of a ban now. Others greed/DE? You could need, or you could roll as others did, whatever you choose, go for it.

I wouldn't say people universally agree to need on epic BoE's. Ninja rules made people to press that greed. Only the bold opted to defy the rules. Rolling need on them when you don't actually need those, is sure way to get banned. I've always greeded them, and if there's person needing it to obviously sell it, I file my report and move on.
Battered Hilt is a quest item. It's not its reward. If you haven't done that quest, need it. Community values the item highly because of the rewards, but in the game, it's just a quest start item available to all. Would be nice to actually get the definitive answer from Warmane on this.
Battered Hilt is a quest item: the desire is truly incredible. The community highly values the item for its rewards, but in-game, the desire is immense !
