Technical Character cleanup

Hi everyone! Sorry if this has been asked before, but I’ve done some digging and I’m still a bit confused about how it works.

Could someone explain the character cleanup on the Onyxia server? I currently have a level 75 Hunter (leveling mainly via quests and dungeons at x1 rates), but I’d like to try out some other classes/races to keep the gameplay fresh.

I’ve read conflicting information: some say characters are deleted after a month of inactivity unless they are level 50+, while others mention an annual account cleanup where even level 50+ characters might be deleted or have their names flagged for a rename.

How does it actually work? If I get a character to level 50, is it permanently safe from deletion?

This happens every year, in more or less the same terms.

Inactive characters are deleted once a year around Feb/March.

Only level 50 or below characters that've been inactive (not logged once) in the past 6 months or so are removed from non-premium accounts. Premium accounts don't have characters removed during inactivity cleanup.

• Level 1 and above characters that have not been played since January 2025 will have their names removed.
  
  • Characters will have the opportunity to choose a new name upon the next login.
  
  
• Level 1 - 50 characters that have not been played since July 2025 will be removed.
  
  • Premium accounts are exempt from removals.
  • Characters that are guild masters will result in the guild being removed.

You'd need to level character to 51 for it to avoid cleanup.

So, if I don't have a premium account but I reach level 51 on my character, they will only get a name change during the cleanup in February/March? Or I have to buy premium to completely disable cleanup

Premium only prevents level 1-50 character deletion. Everybody are subject for name removals.
Note that inactivity time for name removals is different, starting from previous' year's January.
