And there's the keyboard I'm using >.>
I'm in entirely the same boat as you but for different reasons. My left hand is almost useless, I don't keybind anything there at all, all my skills are bound 1 through =. My right hand however is where I do all my clicking, so I invested in a Naga mmo gaming mouse. Best decision I ever made. Since I am a healer using Grid + Clique, and even when I'm playing in shadow spec, my thumb pressing those buttons is more than all I need with mouseover macros for my spells. I don't really pvp so I can't really advise there, but for pve, I'd definitely recommend a gaming mouse. The naga might even be overkill since I hardly use more than 6 or 7 spells for any given fight.
Cue the right had is stronger for a reason jokes.
was not going off his post was going off about the posts above mine on page 2 of this thread.
keybinding does take time to get used to. even when i re-keybind spells to a different position or i make a new toon it takes me a long time to get used to as i mentioned in my first post try running rdfs or non important raids to get used to it.
once you are used to keybinding you are going to ask yourself "how did i ever click?"
i love my naga and have over 32 spells bound to it alone this is not including my tatarus which my left hand uses. yes i have a ******ed left hand as well but over time even it can be taught to hit certain keys.
using 7-8 spells only for any class i feel is not unlocking your full potential. then again i play druid which means we have many different spells useful for many different things. i might be resto but i can pop bear, enrage, frenzy regen and taunt to help pick up an add. i use kitty then sprint to move fast in CB, cheetah outdoors, sometimes i need to hurricane, moonfire, root not to mention all the resto spells. keybinding unlocks all these things to make it much easier. but even so there are just way too many spells for each class to only use 7-8 and feel like everything is bound that they will need.
i would highly suggest using clique(the addon) as it can keybind a lot of simple things for you. if you are serious about keybinding i would suggest a naga (even though i hate razer) and some kind of gaming pad.
if you want to be faster and better keybinding will always be the way to go. i dont want to hear about how some clicker beat a keybinder that just means the keybinder has no clue how to play his class. if you take two people of equal skill and have one click and one keybind the keybinder wins every time.
further more how would any healer be able to heal without keybinds is beyond me as it would be near impossible to heal properly.
dont give me "its all about the enjoyment of the game" crap. we are here to discuss the difference between the two. not the enjoyment of clicking or keybinding.
it also does not matter if you have played the entire game from vanilla to now being a clicker. it proves nothing except you never made it into a true top guild worthy of mention because they would have sniffed out a clicker form a mile away. my guild in retail had a whole specific warning about it in the application process. either way just because you have clicked your entire life does not make what i am saying wrong in the least.
idk about any other ways. you either keybind or you dont. or you get people who half keybind and who dont. full keybinding is still better so until you have actually tried it you cant bash it. where as i can honestly sit here and tell you all of us were clickers when we first came here or on retail. just some of us learned or chose to keybind and others did not. so having that knowledge of my reaction time then to now with keybinds. keybinds kill clicking.
Yes, this is what I meant, well, something similar. Most people change E and Q to A and D, they free Q and E and turn with the mouse. I do the same thing but I only move my keys one space to the left, so instead of ending up using WAD I end up using ESF, to get like three to five keys more on the left side, I also have stuff bound to the calculator numpad on the keyboard, the right part of the keyboard, I have 3 personal buffs and their Raid-Wise versions, so I have them on 123 and the big ones in 456, and I press them with my right hand, and I don't use Shift, Ctrl and Alt as modifiers for targeting, I use them for extra macros.
Also getting the smaller keyboard as Sixtyninee suggested is a really good idea, I want one, and of course, a mouse with extra buttons, not an expensive "gaming" mouse, just some regular with may be two more buttons on the thumb, you can also bind Scrolll up and Scroll down and the click of the scroll button.
Well I am a mostly clicker (i have about 10 binds) and most people like my heals in either pve or pvp. I ofc have tried to play with more binds but that never worked out for me. In fact my guild don't really allow clickers to join, but pre-wipe they have done pvp with me and saw that I am a capable healer. So i like to think that I'm a rather good clicker :D
Ah well then yes, keep doing your thing. Just when someone starts telling you stuff about binds and stuff tell him: It's cool, leave me alone. If they continue just right click on the name and ignore, you know how people have to say to feel we are doing something, you know... I sometimes tell people about binds, at least I want them to try it, because most of the time it works better, in your case it didn't.
I haven't been in a useful thread in weeks, and for the sake of it... I didn't know you're a Healer, now, I hope you have tried or are using some addons, Grid2, Vuhdo and all that stuff... If you're not using, try them, if you don't like them, like keybinding, it's cool, but try them :)
Well, as many people have said clicking decreases your reaction times
What i wanted to say was many spells are meant for clicking. I play Warlock, sure I cast with my 1234, macros, ect but my Curses I apply with clicks during global CD. Its not possible to use buttons during global CD to cast them but I can click-cast inbetween; saving me a cast/CD. Same goes for Life Tap, I use it between global CD with click-casting. This isnt really viable for Melee (tank or DPS) but with Range and Healers, activating trinkets/abilities/instant cast with clicking between global CD is actually some next level **** imo.
If you dont understand what im saying here's an example
Button 1= Casting Spell
Button 2= Instant Cast
Click 1= Instant Cast
If you use Button 1, and press Button 2, you will find yourself waiting between your global CD
However,
If you use Button 1, then Click 1, you can avoid the Global CD, casting both almost simultaneously
Personal advice for OP: If youre going to play nothing but support roles you should be better than relying on clicking; especially while tanking. When I'm playing Bear Tank, I spend all my time Tab-1-2, Tab-1-2, F1, F2, F3, F4. It is essential you learn to macro/hotkey if youre going to tank.
Imagine you have to Intervene because a DPS pulled a group of mobs and will die in 2 seconds if you dont take aggro
If you are skilled, you'll press F1-F5, then your hotkey for Intervene, R makes a great charge/intervene Hotkey, so does 5 and 6.
If you aren't skilled, youre going to waste time clicking the players Avatar and then clicking intervene; they're already dead in this scenario.
This would be like this
Button Press-Button Press
Vs.
Player-Search, Click, Spell-Search, Click
I use healbot :)
Your reaction time is crucial no matter what expansion and regardless of whether or not its pvp or pve. Situational awareness is essential, and when you're having to focus on everything around you, needing to click on the abilities vital to your success is a disadvantage and tends to work against you. You look away to click, refocus only to see your field of view has changed forcing you to click on something else, its an incredibly inefficient way of managing your abilities.
Key bindings do take getting used to, but once you get the hang of them they make a world of difference.
For me it really depends. I use key bound rotations for my dps classes and my healing classes. HOWEVER, when it comes to tanking (I only pally tank) I use a very strange hybrid of clicking and key bound abilities. Because there are a lot of infrequently used situational spells as a prot pally, I tend to have those situated close to my key bound spells. I know exactly where each of those situational spells are, though, and it doesn't really take away from my reaction time because I know exactly where I am going with my mouse in relation to where each spell is located.
I used to click for a long time, I felt comfortable and I was performing fine.
But, in WoW as in many other things in life, you often have to leave the comfort zone to improve.
I suggest you start using macros little by little; start with keys around WASD, then add side mouse buttons, finally add modifiers (shift, alt, ctrl).
It's one of those things that once you're used to them you look back and think how silly you were.
Just a few days ago I decided to add a keybind for my mount - I can' believe how I did without since ... 2004
I can confirm the above recommendation. When I first started trying out binds, I removed the movement applied to Q and E (strafe) and applied that to A and D. This meant that I could no longer keyboard-turn, but instead these were my strafe buttons. Which was fine, because I would always turn with my mouse anyway. I then bound my AoE spells to Q and E, and then bound my big CDs to Shift+1-4. I progressed bit by bit, and I even got a razer naga, which allowed me to keybind my numpad on my mouse.
Today, with my small hands (can't use CTRL or numbers past 4 for realistic binds), I have over 30 binds that I can reach and am capable of using just by muscle memory.
Go a little bit at a time, don't rush it. Once you start getting the hang of it, you will recognize that it is worth it and will never be able to go back.
Super pro keybinding guide v1:
* You can use whatever bind you like AS LONG AS YOU CAN DO IT WHILE HOLDING DOWN RIGHT CLICK WHILE MOVING WITH W-A-S-D.
* Unbind S from back peddle. S is now a green key (see image below).
* Most commonly used spells should be bound to Green Keys.
* Anything with over a minute cooldown should be moved to a modifier controlled keybind (Ctrl + E | Shift + Q etc.)

I love how the whole thread goes "this is how you keybind, keybind this, keybind that" and compleately ignore the topic writer XD
