Elemental shaman any good in pve?

I have reached a point where I'm satisfied with what I have got with my paladin...full ilvl 378, some valor items and Gurthalak from donation...I just want to get exalted with the Avengers of Hyjal and getting my ring before moving on to Dragon Soul.

It's time to level another character. A ranger damage dealer.

I have already tested, and I don't like hunters or mages at all. however, the elemental shaman seems very attractive. I started leveling one, it's lvl 15 and I like it a lot.

Is the elemental shaman any good in pve?. Some people in the global chat said it deals the lowest single target damage of all ranged dd.

I don't know if that is true, or if those people have yet to see a skilled elemental shaman.

Ele shamans deal low single target dps and that's it. It's not coincidence that ele shamans are more rare than locks. When it comes to AoE, they can surpass the hunters, especially if there's 5 targets and you have Chain Lightning glyphed.
I play ele shaman and with full DS gear I have to be really focused and mash buttons like crazy to even come close to dps my hunter had when DS was released.

That being said, ele shamans are tons of fun and low dps shouldn't be the issue to not play it.

because the way ele mastery coded, chain lightning had chance to proc mastery for every "jump" so they make good aoe.

Ele shaman is not the best DPS class and is really gear dependant, even so once you get 397 with 4 set, good trinkets and weapons (and if you don't suck at it) you can pull as much or more Damage than other classes even single target. We have couple ele shamans in guild pulling 40k+ single target stable.

I got ele shammy 382 ilvl, got t13 set 2 , staff from beth normal, insignia and volcano trinket, cheast from jp, infinite loop ring from ds, the rest of gear 4 items is vicious. I am bursting for 27k and doing 22k stable.
So that is good dps for me.

390 ele shaman here using insignia and cunning nm or bottled depending on the encounter and im quite satisfied by my dps :| 30-35k stable single target and can vary but numbers go up depending if the fight has aoe or not >..> for dragon soul elemental is a blast :D plus you got one of the bigest aoe in the game ~_~ they will love you in madness D: go ele ^-^

I've got an 393i ele shamy, and Im holding 26k dps self buffed on dummy.
I enjoy that spec alot, and it provides lots of raid buffs aswell.
I have to mention though, fulmination still hits way lower than it should with my gear,
I should reach 80k crits, and I barely do 50k. Aswell as elementals not working on 100%.
But still its alot of fun.

End End game gear Elemental Shammies actually surpass enhancement. But you need BIS items.
After 85 if you want to gear up you must get haste first so your lightning bolt doesnt take an eternity to cast.
After you get the haste cap your elemental spec will start to have some competitive edge. Before has cap though you will be ****, utter garbage.
Chain lightning makes Elemental aoe the best in the game after Bladestorm, and chain lightning can be spammed indefinitely.

Elemental PVP is not obsolete. You have a 5 sec cd ranged interrupt, and an awesome burst ability. You have root with 8 sec cd, knockback, and healing capability. Chain lighting is deadly in Bgs.

In 2s Arenas Elemental is not the best but it is not garbage. You will fare better in bgs than arenas.

honestly when u step foot in dragon soul you should be heading for a heavy mastery setup :| im going spell hit 17%>mastery>haste > crit and im performing better than when i was faroving haste :| but that is jusst me `-`

I do about 20k steady dps at ilvl 386. I found once you get the DS haste trinket you can reforge into mastery.

reforge to haste until the t13 4piece. then hardcore reforge any haste/crit/spirit to mastery and get at least 17.00% spell hit rating.

before T13 4piece its: Hitcap>haste>mastery>crit
after T13 4piece its: hitcap>Mastery>haste>crit

I am an almost full BiS ele shammy (missing trinkets, ofc no donator heroic gear) 397 ilvl. Gear is really important for you ! especially the T13 4-set, Trinkets, and the dagger from madness(forgot the name <.<) With good gear the ele shammy are actually becoming a bit more competative altough what noboddy mentioned here is that when you spec into spark of life, you will do awesome offhealing and become very important to your raid. This offhealing is for example extremely usefull in fights like morchock HC and can help you alot in progressing in DS HC

You definiately won't be doing top DPS on a boss. Elemental AoE is good and it has a lot of utility that is useful in Dragon Soul unlike enhancement. Earthquake, Earthbind totem for example is useful for Spine and Warmaster. Not to mention that it's a ranged class which is prefered for some bosses.
