There is a reason for distrust, let's take a peak at last few years.
WoTlk: Shadowmourne quest line never got scripted until very late stages of next big expansion, yet it was always available for coins, the given reason was that someone would find a way to abuse the quest line.
Cata: Some end-game bosses were either never actually scripted or had loots missing from them, all the missing loot tables were available for coins.
MoP: Compared to WotlK it's nearly abandoned in comparison, and they still plan to release WoD at some point.
Then there were the two account wipes, now granted what happened was totally out of the dev team's hands but still, after the release of MoP which had a whole lot of end-game content missing,it did sting quite alot.
Now we got legendary cloak quest chain, the dungeon transmog sets, neither of which are available for coins yet,but somehow i don't think they'd be very interested on making either of them available by actual in-game means.
Also let's not forget the shenanigans with Serpent riding, which we didn't have access to for months until the chain was put on auto-complete,one could argue that they did try to fix it,but why not have it on auto-complete until you fix it.
And the worst part will follow in a second - the probable deletion of this post, and a warning for disrespect towards Warmane staff when clearly it's a critique, not disrespect.
Now granted, both sides are at fault for distrust. Playerbase will always try to abuse whatever they can,and mostly report only things that disrupt their gaming experience, instead of taking all issues equally.
And i am sure there are piles of hatemail without any cause or reason whatsoever.
The point is,there was a time in Molten history when clearly the content was gated to force more people to purchase things which in some cases they otherwise wouldn't,hence why everyone is rattled up about content being made available in parts, now we got MoP,the expansion which has more eye-candy items than ever before, and the fear is that it might repeat.
The reason why i mention MoP is because a whole load of people who played it,now move toward WotlK where biggest part of the content is actually playable,so all the bad and the good gets dragged along, including huge amounts of distrust.
