water elemental is not following you when you use nova, hes just standing and not moving , so you need to manualy press spam follow button to move him close to you. This happens only in arenas . And i want to ask , this happened in retail also or is it just lolten ?

Since this a mage problem, try posting in the mage bug discussion or make a bugtracker report, all pets are currently bugged on cata in some way or another.

But to answer your question: this did not happen on retail.

There are already bugs regarding pets in the hunter section of the bugtracker. Apparently it's happening to DK and Warlock pets as well.
