1. Can you explain a couple of things to me?

I'm a new, mostly pvp player coming from Guild Wars 2. Since GW2 currently has terrible balance in PvP, I decided to try out WoW. That being said, WoW is a massive game, much bigger than GW2 so I feel really confused with the most of the game. So I just compiled a couple of questions and if someone experienced could answer them, I would be really happy.
    1. I've read in this(http://www.icy-veins.com/forums/topi...nner-guide-54/) PvP beginners guide that in patch 5.3 PvP Power / Resilience were added to the game in order to make PvP more accessible. I know that the WoTLK has patch 3.3.5, so I am wondering, does that mean PvP Power / Resilience aren't in the game yet, making PvP unplayable, or am I thinking wrong all together?
    2. Do you need to grind for 4 months in PvE, to not get 1-shot, but still have crappy armor compared to others?
    3. Where at all do you get your gear for PvP, how fun is it and which expansion is the best for PvP?

  2. Hey Tomiyou

PvP is working properly. and in regards to grinding for 4 months, not really. that has various factors, such as ( if rolling ) luck, or how much DKP you have ( a system guilds use for raiding when it comes to loot ) and then of course how much time you are willing to put in. I've been playing just a little over two months here and i am pretty decently geared in pvp and pve. If you wanna take a short cut, you can always donate for some gear.
When you play battlegrounds you will recieve honor, when you have enough honor you can buy various pvp items in your main city. I find it very fun, also about finding the class that works for you of course! Expansion is debatable.. i played wrath of the lich king for 5 years and i did a lot of pvp there, it was fantastic. I recently started Cataclysm, but i haven't played it long enough to judge properly. I hope this helps, best of luck.

  3. if you are looking for the most complete experience right now, play Lord server WotLK. It has by far the most content wise. Whatever version you decide to play, it is fairly balanced with each class having it's own ups and downs, you just need to find the class you like best. The private servers are great for lvling fast, so you can get to the end game pve/pvp that much faster.
I have been playing for about 2 months and am decently geared pvp wise with only a modest amount of time played. PV gear is easy, go into battlegrounds, get honor, buy gear.

  4. Ty for all the quick answers! I've been playing for some time today and got my night elf druid up to level 18 only through quests. I've heard that dungeons are a good way to get xp and you can start them at level 15, but I don't even know where the first one is located. Can I do low lvl dungeons with "bad gear" (the one I got while leveling), or do I have to get better gear, and where? I've seen a few tips on how to play in dungeons and I've played through Dragon Age Origins, so I know how threat works. I only have 20 silver atm, so I can't do much, but the problem is, I have no idea where to get more gold/gear/xp, or where anything is on the map. I've come to Auberdine, but don't know how to progress. I don't even know if there is a personal story, the only one that has stuck with me so far is Druid training story. I'm pretty sure I just have to climb the learning curve, but don't know where to start.

  5. Ok I'm gonna try to explain this as best I can.

There is no personal quests for each of your toons, only certain quests some classes take, such as getting rez for paladin or bear form for druid. you can do low dungeons easy since your talents and scaling stats will make you more powerful than the mobs you face.
Quest will be the best way to lvl and make easy money. since your on lord and you have the one toon, I would say get a profession now. Get skinning and leatherwork and learn to use auction house. You will make money and gain helpful gear.
for your druid, leveling is easiest as dps so feral druid but feel free to try any spec you want. you can either dps, heal, tank, or been a caster.
For PvP, you want to do battleground and get honor. learn classes and how to stun, snare, and otherwise incapacitate people.
If your completely new I'd say just lvl and practice learning how to killing and work spells til you can get the hang of it. rotation for feral druid is tough but strong. Don't be afraid to reroll at this point. Took me days to decide my first toon (I started as hunts xD easy mode)
I also would suggest going on the boat on the dock near darnassus to a at least check out stormwind and get familiar with it. I'm sure it will be crowded and it'll be a experience.
Read some of the class guides and other guides on forums, I still read them and find useful information.

All in all, get professions, use quest to level, learn spells class and rotation, do battleground when more familiar, and most of all have fun.
    Hope this helped.
    Blessed be,
    Cereman

  6. Also check a leveling guide for where to go to get quest at. Look more for what level a zone is and do whatever it takes to get a mount at lvl 20.
Wotlk is most complete so it's abit more fair on classes. Lord realm is in a wild house of pvp with gear being...well let's just say imbalance. dw and raggy realm are pretty good. Rest are not as complete but fun to play on. Leveling on it will be lonely though but quick.
I would also suggest trying out warsong or blackrock for instant 80 pvp to experiment and learn pvp quick.

  7. Again, thanks for the quick and very informative answers. One last question: Which class do you recommend for me? I mostly enjoy classes that deal damage from range, mostly through spells, so spellcasters of any sort are fun to me. For melee I like playstyle with decent movement, but I like using a wide array of skills, not just 3-4 skills. Also, I like having some sustain alongside damage, I hate being dependant on someone else to deal damage/heal me. I know I sound picky, but I would just like to get myself into WoW, since it looks incredibly fun to play (Gw2 has soft trinity so I am used to having a bit of everything, exactly why I rolled druid first). Btw, I'm playing on Deathwing, and yea, maps are mostly empty in low lvls.

  8. If you are a beginner looking to pvp at level 80, try a ret paladin. Here's a Swifty video complaining about how easy and faceroll they were in WOTLK:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XhtxdmjUOQM

In fairness to rets, to play the class to its potential you need to have a good bit of skill and knowledge of the game. But it's also true that you can just make the right macro and kill some experienced players of other classes in bgs and stuff and not worry about the skillful stuff like when to use hand of protection on your healers and stuff like that.

I have to say, though, that even with an easier spec like ret paladins, it's an uphill battle starting fresh in WoW pvp at this stage. Most people you encounter will know not only what their class can do, but what others can do as well. Even if you rolled a ret, you wouldn't know basic things like not to use your hammer of justice stun (a magical ability) on a DK when he has anti-magic shield popped or when he has icebound fortitude active, which makes him immune to stuns. You wouldn't know not to stun a mage unless he has his blink spell on cooldown, since blink breaks stuns. Tons of things like that, for every class. Most of us learned them long ago.

Also, a lot of people you see in bgs will way outgear you. I'd recommend trying to enjoy the leveling process instead, rather than jumping into pvp. That way you can learn your class as you experience the leveling process and see the lore and "world" of WoW. Jumping into WoW pvp cold at this stage will not be a fun experience for you, I'm afraid.

  9. Ty, this was a very helpful post, do note that I am aware of the high learning curve because of the many classes in the game. Yea, I do expect to struggle in the beginning, mostly because of my lack of knowledge of other classes. In Gw2, I learned all classes by creating a character for each class and trying out their abilities and playing with them some time, but my only chance to do this in WoW are instant level cap servers. Since playing all classes by playing them is the best option, but also the slowest, would it suffice if I take a look at all classes' abilites and try to learn this way or is that not enough. Also, you said that I should enjoy the leveling. In all honesty, leveling has been quite boring to me so far (lvl 23). I have very few abilities, I am constantly confused by everything and the story hasn't been really anything, but at least the world design is amazing. So, should I jump into PvP after I reach lvl cap, or should I get into raiding first?

  10. I've leveled a retribution paladin, they are durable, strong dps, and easy to pick up. But you will see maaaaany people with them.
Hunter is awesome for lvling, try beast master and you got a tank/dps machine to carry you.
Mage and warlock are awesome for locking down noobs in pvp. Lock you fear and put dots everywhere. Mage you would want frost and you get a pet at later lvl.

I would say read some classes guides in forums to see what rotation and key points of class are to find a good way to aim for.

Add me on deathwing if alliance, ceremen or swaghetti

As long as you don't mind paying your dues and getting stomped early, then go ahead and pvp. At least you can't get kicked from a bg because you're a noob, but you will get kicked from pve raids if they see you are a noob. Actually, you probably won't even get into raids in the first place unless you donate to buy a lot of gear.

I think making toons of various classes on an instant 80 server is a great way to learn and also see which appeals to you.

The good news is that WoW pvp used to be a great game, and you will get to experience it. You will be playing a far better game than people on retail are playing - they have dumbed down the game so much it's pathetic. Classes used to interact with each other really well, and there was a lot of depth and complexity to most of them.

So there's a big journey there to be had, but, once again, it will be a rough journey for you at first. As long as you're ok with that, go ahead and jump into pvp.

Btw- here's my favorite WoW pvp video from WOTLK, showing my favorite class (hunter). Shows how fun the game can be, especially if you're really good like the guy in the video:

  12. Lvl will be slow til you hit a higher lvl allowing you to truly begin to see your class shine. Some take longer than others.
I encourage you to try blackrock. It's instant 80, all pvp, etc. And try a class or two out

  13. Lol I main a hunt. Awesome pve gear = 2-3 shot pvp dudes xD.

Or die in a stunlock from a rogue because of no resil. :)

  15. Or die in a stunlock from a rogue because of no resil. :)
I did have a few wrath pieces on but mostly pve. the crits and arm pen is just too sexy.
