1. Satin Vs. Mooncloth gear for shadowpriest season 5

    Hi! I need some advice!

So, I started with getting mooncloth gear, mainly because it seemed like a better idea since I sometimes play disc and sometimes shadow.

I have few questions for other (S)priests out there:

For purely shadow priests, which is better Satin gear or Mooncloth gear? Is there any use for stacking crit over spirit? I know later in relentless/wrathfull it's haste over everything, but in deadly season there isn't much haste gear to stack.

2 set satin + 2 set mooncloth +1 w.e. for higher resilience or just go for 5x satin or 5x mooncloth?

Are you using PvE gear? Rings? Trinkets? Offsets?

    EDIT:
Yeah I've given this a lot of thought and I know what I'm going to do (at least for now until I change my mind ;))

I'm playing as a spriest with a rogue in 2v2, I'm going for 2x mooncloth (shoulders+hands) 3x satin, crit/hit offset, resi trinkets, no pve gear. I feel like I need a lot of resilience, also the lil bit of burst from crit seems more valuable than the lil bit of mana regen, most fights are ending faster than I oom regardless of my spirit.

Stacking haste is only possible with a lot of pve gear, sacrificing resilience for haste seems like a bad idea. Maybe after wintersgrasp opens haste becomes an option, but for now it seems like a dead end.

I think Spirit over crit might be better when playing with a healer in the team (mainly in 3s), but for now the 3s bracket seems dead.

  2. Heya,

I will be going for a mix, imo u go oom 2 fast if u go full full crit; I'll take the mooncloth (spirit) set.

I think the 4 piece bonus is 2 important in 2s atleast, for 3s 3x mooncloth + 2 satin is an alternative. If u take full satin, it gives u around 6% extra crit, but u lose alot of spirit and spirit give sp as well right, thats why im gonna go hybridish.

But still u wanna do dmg as sp, thus ur kinda forced to stack a bit crit this season (later full haste for extra dot ticks too, but u can't get 2 extra ones this season if u dont wanna play with ALOT of pve). I'll go full crit offsets (even neck/cloak), calculation is around 2% crit vs 3% haste. No big difference, but I'll pref the crit here.

Will be using PvE Rings -> Spirit / Haste Ring (213) from valor marks and preferably the Naxx25s Kel'thuzad Ring. Alternatively u can go Naxx25s Kel'Thuzad Ring and Honor Hit Ring.

@ Hit: I was planning on going for 3% hit on gear (Naxx25s Trinket + 1 SP/Hit Gem) which makes 6% hit with shadow talent without applying any debuff (theoreticly u have 6% without any hitgear as shadow, but that implies that e.g. ur fears may miss more often without dotting them first). 10% hit is hardcap in pvp, but going that far is overkill imo (ud/b11 rogues & pallies).

Trinkets that I will probably use -> Naxx25s Crit + Shadowbolt Procc Trinket & Hit + SP on Procc Trinket. There are a few alternatives like Naxx10 SP and Haste Procc, but I think I'll stick with those 2 (I love to shadowbolt as SP :D).

Hope that helps! (was also wondering about SP itemization, so I hope there will be more feedback on this!)

Edit: Oh and don't forget Spellpenetration -> 3 Blue gems (gloves, belt, pants) + cloak enchants = 95, to counter pally auras, mages, other priests if u don't have the time to dispell -> deadly spell penetration wand gives u 26 which helps u against most things.

  3. I'm not going to make some in depth reason guide on what to gear, however, in season 5, mana regen is absolutely horrible and I would take all the help I could get. I mainly play Disc but shadow is no exception. If you oom it is essentially game. The max mp5 in deadly is sub 400 which still feels like nothing, so I would never sacrifice spirit over crit even as a DPS.

there is not a single reason to use crit s8 set. spriest have always been used spitit

;) Not asking for long guides either, haha. Mainly wanting to know if people are going for mooncloth, satin or mix in the main set. I am fairly convinced at the moment that the best way is to go for mix, 2x satin + 3x mooncloth or 3x satin + 2xmooncloth, just for the resilience bonus.

I agree. Season 8, Full mooncloth (or mix of mooncloth and satin if extra resilience is needed) and haste offsets. However, post was mainly about season 5, since that is the season currently active on lordaeron. =) ( s5/deadly season mentioned in the title and the op)

  6. Changed my mind, u go oom rly fast either way. Also taking 2x 2s set bonus -> crit head / chest / legs and spirit shoulders / gloves. Rest crit crit crit and a few pve things that have haste.

The only reason to mix Satin and Mooncloth is for the 100 extra resilience, other than that spirit is better than crit any day. The mana regen adding up with Replenishment is highly underestimated by too many people. Full Mooncloth, or if you do desire more Resilience, then use Satin Hands and Shoulders (the least impact on stats).
I'm not sure what people are talking about, but using only pre-raid/pre-arena gear (Wintergrasp pieces, Savage Gladiator gear (the blue ilvl 200 set), Hateful offsets, and non-raid PvE gear) I am able to get 577 Haste (around 17.50%, and No, Haste does NOT give extra dot ticks in WotLK), 750 Resilience (if you use the defensive tools at your disposal correctly this is well enough for this gear level), while maintaining 2% Hit (+3% on Shadow Spells from talents for the 5% cap, one clipped Mind Flay on an enemy for Misery allows 5% Hit on offensive Dispels as well) and 131 Spell Penetration to counter the 130 Resistance buffs. This build, however, does not revolve around Spirit and will most likely oom me very quick, but I'll still try it out and check results. To me Mooncloth and Satin uses different specs as well, Mooncloth uses Meditation while Satin uses Mental Agility.

  9. even full s8 spriest has around 12-13% crit, which is completely negated by resilence. crit set is useless af.
