1. So...Which server?

So, I've been sitting here since I signed up, trying to figure out how what server or..expansion server or whatever it is I should sign up for. I've never played World of Warcraft in the past(Didn't have money for it, plus it didn't really seem all that...amazing to me. Loved the lore though.) so I don't know what expansion thing I should go for, or which server would be good for....well, a newbie like me.

    Any suggestions?

Also, I apologize if this doesnt belong here. Or if this has already been asked and answered in a different thread.

  2. Well, there's a considerable difference between the Wrath of the Lich King servers, and the other servers which all come after Wrath (Cataclysm and Mists of Pandaria). Wrath of the Lich King is part of what you could call the "old" WoW because it was the last expansion with Vanilla quests before Blizzard changed everything in Cataclysm. If you want to get a feel for the older game, then I'd recommend playing on a Wrath realm (WotLK), but I'd say that Cataclysm is definitely easier to solo on. However, with Warmane, all servers but Lordaeron have increased experience, reputation, and gold rates (x7), and Lordaeron is the only x1 realm. Lordaeron is also the most popular realm, and you may have to wait in the queue to play during peak times.

  3. Yeah, Wrath of the Lich King is the only one I've really heard...remotely anything about. And it looks relatively interesting...I know for a fact I want the guy's sword. I don't care WHAT it does to me, it looks awesome.

I did have a friend who told me that Mists wont kick my *** as hard as prior expansions, but I don't know if that's true or not?

  4. Go for Lordareon. It will probably be hard to level up for you but you will learn how to play WoW and all aspects of it, including dungeons, your class etc. etc.
If you jump into some x7 or such, you will get your max level extremly fast and you wont know **** what to do after it.

Lordareon is WOTLK x1, real blizzlike experience. You will learn your class really good if you play on Lordareon since you will use every spell starting off from rank 1 spells etc. etc. My strong suggestion is to level up Paladin as they are fairly easy class to play, best for begginers.

    Alrighty then. Thank you. :D

Any suggestions for races, then? I know classes are...race exclusive for some reason. Or at least some of them are. I probably will go Pally given what you said.

  6. Just play on Lordaeron. It's WoTLK x1 server and it is the best and as it'll actually take you time to level up and stuff, i'd say for you that's a good thing because it means it'll give you time to learn more about your class and game mechanics.

Anyways, take care and enjoy your time here on Warmane.

    peace

  7. If you're new to WoW like you mentioned in your opening post, I would highly recommend Lordaeron (Wrath of the Lich King expansion). It being a low-rate hardcore realm will capture the early nostalgic experience a lot of players reminisce about. It's definitely something you don't want to miss.

p.s. I also recommend downloading the old WotLK client, not the new one (on the website).

About races, if you choose to play a Paladin, that depends on your preference. Blood Elves are the only Horde race that can be that class. If you're going to play Alliance, Humans are best for PvP. Draenei are the best for healing. Dwarves are the best for tanking. PvE Retribution, all races are decent.

Additional note: If you're unfamiliar with the terms, PvP is Player Versus Player, and PvE is Player Versus Environment.

Dwarven it is, then. I've never been much for tanking, but hey. I can learn.

Also, if you dont mind my asking, why the old WotLK client? Why not the one that just says "Wrath of the Lich King"?

  9. Will Ulduar come to the other WotLk to the other servers or will it stay on Lordaeron?

The hardest part about learning to tank with a Paladin is learning how the stats work. There are guides for that in the paladin section of the forum if you wish to have assistance with that. Otherwise, Paladin is probably the easiest tank class to learn. Shouldn't be too difficult.

I recommend the old client because the new client includes Warlords of Draenor character models, and it's partially incomplete. Mainly because WotLK and Warlords of Draenor data aren't very compatible. So it can cause some errors and limit your customization options on character creation.

Ulduar is available on the other WotLK realms. I'd say it's about 85-90% working. All bosses are killable.

  11. Alright. Well, I'm gonna try and get this download working, so I can hop into the world of Wrath of the Lich King. Thank you all for the suggestions.
