Starting Gold Options

Was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on what some of the best items to buy from the donation shop to sell on the AH for some starting gold.
Right now I best option that I see is the Parrot Cage (Hyacinth Macaw).

You can buy BoE items like Darkmoon Greatness and just sell them? Won't that mess up the economy and make inflation really high?

Do you know what inflation is? Buying BoEs on the shop and selling them on the Auction House doesn't inject extra money into the server. It does nothing to the economy.

Inflation is the increase of the consumer prices over time. Creation of unexisting items via donation and selling them on the AH most probably will result in increased supply of the given item, thus lowering the overall price. Such a trend is called deflation (the opposite). For a game like WoW that's not bad as long as you can't "create" top items cheap. If they keep the pricing policy that it'll probably be fine.

I wouldn't go with the parrot cage, or any other companion pet. Those can be very hard to sell. Darkmoon card: greatness could be a viable option.

I recommend getting mining/herbalism + skinning as professions and just making money selling ores/herbs+leathers in the auction house. I personally only had mining and that was enough to fund all riding skills, spells and some gear and after I got to 80 I had few thousand gold to spare. After reaching 80 I unlearned mining and powerleveling other professions was a piece of cake.
