1. Goldsellers

    Goldsellers spam global roughly every 10s, ignore wont help since they change char every few hours. Im sure its not only on wotlk servers.

    My suggestion: ban words like the goldsellerssites i wont mention any, you will find them by joining global.
    Seen similar stuff on other servers.

    Would this be an option, could it work?

  2. I'd guess there is an addon to filter those out, I fully agree with the suggestion tho. Similarly as the sentinel anti-cheat system works there should be system that auto-bans ips AND accounts of those who mention a gold-selling site for example more than 4 times in 20 minutes or smthng.

  3. Time to bump.
    Am i really the only one bothered by these spammers, for now there are 4 diffrent sites advertising in globals on every single server.
    As i mentioned befoe ignoring them would fill my ignore list in a week at best.

    Edit: I forgot to mention they even have multiboxing programms, which they use to create lvl 10 chars who stand at mailboxes and spam everyone their advertisements.

  4. The very reason they type their advertising with spaces, odd characters and similar, and keep changing it, is to avoid any auto-detection we impose.
    It's not that "you're the only one bothered," just that there's so much you can auto-detect before people saying legitimate things start getting banned along, so the best way to deal with them remains being to make a report. The more reports, the more accounts and login information we have to filter out.

    Here is my idea. The auto detect script will look for all global messages including these words and marks;

    To start with, look for dollar mark: $ They have this in their messages and not many players use it.

    Look for "1000g" "1kg" 1000 gold"

    Look for equation mark "=" They use this like 1000g=2$

    Look for sitenames, especially for small parts.

    I dont believe you will detect false positives if you look for these terms. And the auto detecter will see all the advertisers. A fellow GM can confirm the messages and IP ban them. It will be easy and fast.

    Have a nice day.

  6. "A beer where I live costs $2" = ban.
    "Red=dead" = ban.
    "Selling whatever 1000g" = ban.
    "w w \/\/ . buyg01d (.) com" = not banned.

  7. "A beer where I live costs $2" = ban.
    "Red=dead" = ban.
    "Selling whatever 1000g" = ban.
    "w w \/\/ . buyg01d (.) com" = not banned.
    Read my message again please. "A fellow GM can confirm the messages and IP ban them." Ofc these messages need to be inspected before taking action.

    About your last line, all the gold sellers i've seen uses long messages. They don't just write the site name like that. I saw them using messages like

    "site name .com All Welcome 1000g=2$" and a lot of extra words.

    I believe my way would be useful, yet i dont know how to implement it. Gave my advice and its your decision to take it or not.

    Which still means a GM having to check and the gold sellers only being banned after it - just like happens with reports and with the auto-detection. All you're suggesting is to create an immense number of false positives to be filtered through.

  9. So, here's what I think, a player that sends those messages has an account, right? And that account is connected with his IP address, so couldn't someone figure out that IP and ban it from even trying to create another account on warmane? This would work unless: They could switch IP's easily with high-end scripts (Heard about something like that.) but I doubt they can do such a thing, or they would simply change networks, which implies a heck of a lot of work for them. I say this, but I have no idea of how difficult it is to find someones network IP address and ban it, which seems to be difficult, especially since theres lots of those people. What do you think?

  10. ignore wont help since they change char every few hours.
    There exists a veritably wonderful addon called ignoremore, it gives you a (near enough) limitless ignore list as well as a few other nifty features. You can then right click on names in chat, then click ignore. However I do not recall where the right click feature comes from, it might be a default feature of wow chat, or a feature of the CChat addon I use, I can't remember, but the point is you don't have to worry about clearing up your ignore list and can spam hundreds of ignores per hour without any real effort.

    Furthermore, if you develop a hair trigger ignore reaction and spam it on everyone stupid, your game experience will be considerably improved, unless you are a stupid person and enjoy like-minded company. Sadly the aforementioned exception applies to the majority of this server.

    Right clicking a few times every few hours if gold spammers bother you is hardly an issue, except for PvPers, we don't really get this whole clicking thing :]

    P.S. Why is everyone posting above me, apart from obnoxious, not embarrassed to suggest/discuss things which they evidently have no understanding of whatsoever? If you don't know ****, don't suggest/discuss ****, just ask for help.

  11. Only thing i came up with after all this time is to raise the level to enter global to 20. Players below 20 still can look for groups in /1 since most of them will be westfall/barrens anyway.
    Also you could enable a peer to peer whisper like lvl15 could whisper eachother but not from 15 to 80 same for mails, unless your in friendlist ofc.

  12. @Obnoxious is it possible to ban their IP adress permanently?

  13. Hello,

    It drives me crazy too.

    Unfortunately the Gold Spammers are only going to get worse as the Gold Squish approaches. I wish there was a way to stop it, but the players that do it will always find a way around it.

    in the age of the free vpn... that's like trying to make a prison out of seaweed and expecting people to be kept in

    I'm pretty sure many are, but you can do only so much. Banning an individual IP is a matter of refreshing the connection and getting a new one. Banning an IP range can mean banning legitimate players along with it. I can tell you it's something that frustrates us as well, so it isn't like we're ignoring the issue, but that it's a constant war of attrition.
