1. Question about professions

    Hello,

I am a completely new to this game and I have a quick question about professions. Which two professions are usually the most consistent money makers? Also, if I were to make a secondary character, what professions should I get on that?

I read something about your main character having gathering professions because of their ability to quickly go everywhere and to have your secondary character have the production professions since it'll be in a city most of the time.

I would really like to hear some opinions and thanks for your time!

  2. I don't think that there is some definite answer to your question. After all, if everybody picked the same profs their money making capacity would soon wear out.

    These are some considerations:

    1. There are farming profs and crafting profs, and you best take the farming prof which goes with the crafting prof. For example, blacksmiths and engineers use a lot of mining materials, so most bs and engs have mining for a second prof. That way they don't need to buy mats.

    2. You could choose a combination which allows you to craft your own gear. So if you are a leather wearer you could pick skinning + leatherworking.

    3. Other profs allow you serve more classes than your own. Inscribers and jewelcrafters for example can craft stuff which can be used by all players. That way they have a wider circle of customers.

    4. Another strategy could be to pick two farming profs, like mining and herbalism, and sell those materials on the auction house.

    5. Make good use of the auction house. If you find gear with colored names (green, blue, purple, orange) which you yourself have no use for, NEVER sell those to a vendor! Instead, visit the auction house (the AH), check for how much similar gear is being offered and then put it there for a comparable price.

In that case, do not only check the stats and the level of the gear, but check also how it looks. Many players are big on transmogrification (meaning that they make gear look like other gear), and they will buy lousy gear for good money if it looks good on them. Beware though that only items can be used for transmogrification only when is bound to the player. So an item which looks nice, but which is not binding on equip, will not be bought.

    EDIT:
And be wise! professions are designed to be learned at low levels and to grow with you as you progress. Do NOT start to think about money by the time you need it. If you make money always, it will simply be there when you need it!
