I'm starting out on wotlk. I'm trying to figure out what class I want to play and I'm having a hard time. I've played most classes and I know what I like, but I'm afraid I'll pick something that isn't really viable. Are there any classes/specs that just aren't good? Any classes that really shine in pvp or are just "the best" tanks? High dps classes? Any pros or cons of any class would be appreciated :) please don't bother responding if your answer is to play what I like. I like being useful in the game. If you feel the need to answer with this, then please also tell me that all classes and all specs are completely equal.

Let's get real. Every class is "viable". There are so many factors in being "viable". Player skill + gear + latency + glyphs + spec + rotation + enchants + gems + consumables + macros + addons etc. Don't expect most people to be some ultra pros man. If you have a brain you can play whatever you want and be more than viable with it. Just take what you actually enjoy... trust me you don't wanna play a class that you don't like, just to be "viable".
This age old bull**** question "which class is the best" is what you're asking essentially. Get real, there is no best.
Obviously not all classes are equal, then there would be no customization... But every class "shines" in different situations. Like what does "best" mean? You do realize that every fight in a raid is different and every situation in pvp is different right? I think you already know that there are no "best in everything" classes.
Also about "being useful"... Dude there's tens of thousands of ppl playing, do you really think your char is gonna make some huge difference? Whatever you play, you will be "useful" if you play it right. One class will be more "useful" in one situation and another class, in another situation... there is no "master of all".
Don't play warrior if you're new to wotlk. Macros / stance dancing / and stuff is necessary and it's not easy class as people claim here, it seems easy beacuse every second warrior got best-in-slot gear with Shadowmourne, so all they do is charge bladestorm gg.
I never played them myself anyway, only a little, they aren't my style. But for a new guy they are nice pick. Ghinbedi says it right though. Marcuus you are just like a I-know-it-all forum-spammer. Gosh tired of such people.

Know it all? What part of what i said wasn't true? Every class is viable. What else is there to be said? He didn't ask what class is easy, he said that he's afraid to pick something that's not viable, hence i said that all are viable. Are you trying to say only ret pala and dk are viable? I write 2-3 posts every day or every other day, how is that spam? If you're tired, go to sleep you clown.

"viable"
that word
even naked character is viable in theory
on practice u have to tryhard as mage/rogue/feral even if bis, meanwhile as warrior/udk u can sit on the keyboard and roll out
it takes less energy and efforts to play as bis war/udk to be decent, and only these class owners decline that for obvious reasons

Semi true, but do you find it intereseting to play a ret paladin or dk rofl? I would rather play smth that's more engaging and not some boring crap where i get tired of it fast + most players in any situation ain't very good anyway, so even if the class is "easier", it won't show much. I mained a ret on retail in wotlk and 8/10 rets sucked. There's a lot of other factors that come into play too + those classes are so overpopulated that noone even wants them.
