WotLK Issues with logging into a server

So, I can log in to the game without an issue, but when I go to log in to a server, it cycles me through the "logging in" screen for several seconds before cycling back to the realm selection list. As far as I know, I've done everything I need to do:

- the realmlist.txt file is edited appropriately
- I made firewall and router exceptions
- all the necessary game files are there

try changing realmlist.txt to realmlist.wtf

Changed it to a .txt to edit it then changed it back. This was before I set all the exceptions.
