I want a reliable server with a large population..
But it also seems like I need a d/c to have a chance of even logging in.
At this point, I could go to work for a full shift and come back to still being in que.

This is the initial hype of a big project, give it a bit of time and the numbers should get a bit lower. It's been only a week.

No, you definitely don't want a disconnect because it seems to hurt more than it helps. Server went down twice while I was trying to connect, and each time it's knocked me further back in the queue each time I tried to log back in. 6+ hours in waiting to get on, which is fine since I'm busy trying to find someone to fix my AC.

I'm also a little worried about that.
Playing on a couple of servers before, there will be the initial pop and then after a while the server will just die off entirely.
I'd hate to put in work for a server that may only have 100 people on in a month.

Other servers do not compare in terms of population though:). Lordaeron was once 12000, now it is stable at 5-6k during peak times which is still very good. So yes, the numbers will probably decrease, but by what amount and for how long no one can tell. People come and go, but I don't think Outland will have a low population ever, so you should not worry. 13k is a lot of people, even if some thousands leave, there will still be plenty of players.

A lot of people wanted a stable and safe TBC server after all the stuff that went on with other servers, so I think if you want TBC Outland is your safest bet in every aspect of the game. Sure, you could also play something else and just observe how things go on for 1-2 months
