Inventory not included?

Whats the point of the option of equipment only or "inventory not included" when you want to sell a character?

The amount of times i see people selling characters saying stuff like "healing and dps gear in bags, x mount included, x amount of pvp marks included, but then you see inventory not included in yellow letters. I bought a shaman the other day and even the totems were gone. I'm not complaining about that though.

I just want a valid reason why this option even exists and why people advertise their items when they select this option.

It's much cheaper to sell a character with only what it has equipped, but on most cases manually removing the inventory before selling means destroying many bound items, which will still be gone if the character never gets sold. The inventory will still be there if that option is used instead, though.
