1. Back from the Future

Hello one and all. I'm playing on Lordaeron and just figured I would make this post since I got some noob questions. For backstory, I played WOTLK years ago when I was very young and very very bad, took me four months to reach lvl 20 where I quit. I started playing retail with WoD since I finally had free time. Even after grinding 5 characters to max, I was rather dissapointed by modern WoW especially when I reached max lvl but I was deeply interested in all the little more interesting tid bits that they seemed to have left in, such as the class quests. My father and brother informed me that the version I played when I was younger (WOTLK) was a far better experience so I have come here to find out for myself whether it lives up to the hype. Currently at lvl 25 on a forsaken warlock, same race and spec I played in retail.

My first impressions of older WoW compared to modern WoW are very good thus far. The game seems slower but far more interesting and less braindead. There are plenty of social players on the server who regularly talk to others. Contrast this with modern WoW where I met people constantly but nobody ever said a word, let alone hung out together. While I find the disabled dungeon finder rather annoying at times, finding the instance entrance with you group and actually communicating helps create a vastly more alive and immersive experience than modern WoW which felt like a glorified slide show that just showcased their legacy. It is refreshing to actually know the area an instance takes place in instead of just being teleported to some random series of hallways and pressing W and 1 until you get your win. Auction house is fully functional and is more populated than I thought it would be. The world seems somewhat underpopulated at times but that does not bother me.

TL;DR- Having a blast so far. Challenging but very fun.

    Noob questions:
    1) My friend informed me that during vanilla, it was usually a good idea to use the lowest ranks of your spells since they were far more mana efficient which allowed for faster leveling and less downtime. Is this true and if so is it still a good idea in this version?

    2) Is ganking low level players frowned upon by administrators and GM's?

    3) If I remember correctly, glyphs in modern wow were learned from the item. After that you could swap them out without having to buy a new glyph. Is the same true here or each time I reset my spec and gyphs I will have to purchase new glyphs from the AH?

    4) Lets say I maxed out a profession like engineering and I changed professions. Would I lose all of the recipes I had learned even if I switched back to engineering later or would they be returned to me? I cannot recall how this worked in retail since I dont think I ever changed from mining / engineering.

Thats all I have for now. I will probably update this later with further impressions or questions as a sort of blog. I would like to congratulate everyone who has worked on this server. So far it is very immersive with the only bugs or errors I have experienced thus far being related to mob pathing. Most impressive.

  2. Hello and welcome to our server! :)

    Answers to your question:

    1) It is but not always. Mostly, lower level spells are used to trigger some talent modifiers which will boost your damage/healing and then you should cast the highest rank spell to make maximum damage/healing.

    2) It's not. All our realms are PvP realms and ganking is part of PvP. Annoying but allowed.

    3) Glyphs will not reset until you replace them.

Let's say you are the druid with Restoration spec and Balance spec with glyphs. If you decide to switch spec from Balance to Feral, your Balance spec glyphs will remain until you replace them with Feral spec glyphs.

    4) Yes, your recipes will reset.

    Good luck in game!
