WotLK When i change settings in game black screen.

Hey so each time i get into game and change say i want to play in windowed mode so i can alt tab easier it just goes into a black screen. I can't task manager alt f4 or anything i have to force reboot. The resolution i playing on is 1080p 144hz. Even alt tabbing in fullscreen just leaves the screen black with the sound in the background? I've got the wotlk standard one not the (old) one.

try to reduce resolution and then set window mode
