1. Chat window settings won't save / Addons don't work

    Hello illustrious Warmane staff,

I'm playing on the Lordaeron WotLK server and am having some serious issues with my chat and addons.

    First the chat:

Without fail, whatever I set my chat box settings to (position, background opacity, size) as soon as I logout, even if just to the character sheet and back in, all of these settings revert to default. How can I stop this from happening? I've already gone as far as completely reinstalling the game and don't really know what else to try.

    Addons:

I've tried installing several addons straight out of the well maintained forum addon lists but can't seem to get them to appear ingame. I'm an experienced WoW vet so I'm no stranger to this process. I've unzipped the files, put them in the Interface>Addons folder, logged in to the character sheet, checked under the addons button to verify they are working, all work and don't show as out of date (even though I check the box to load them anyway), but when I go ahead and log in to a character, none of them appear.

Any knowledge you may have to fix this issue would be greatly appreciated. I'm sure you can imagine how much time I've already spent scouring the forums, google, reddit etc. so here I am finally writing a ticket...ha.

    Thanks!

  2. It sounds to me like you have some settings that cause an override.
Try to backup your WTF Folder somewhere and delete the original, launch the game and see if it helps.

  3. Thanks for the quick response!
I gave that a try but to no avail. :(

    Any other ideas? lol

edit: I'm going to try a full reinstall again as well just to rule that out.
Is there a chance this could be related to the WoD model version of the game? I ask only because having played live WoW for years as well as other private servers, I've never seen this issue come up so I have to believe that it's unique to Warmane.

  4. I FIXED IT!!!!

Just so the rest of the world is aware...I had Bit Defender enabled on my antivirus and that was causing the issue. Not sure why from a technical standpoint but it instantly solved the problem when I disabled it.

edit: alright looks like I was close but not exactly right on my first fix, since the problem popped up again almost immediately.
Turns out it wasn't the Bit Defender specifically but my antivirus software as a whole blocking the WoW.exe from caching any settings. A simple whitelisting of the .exe seems to have solved everything.

So in a roundabout way you were right on the money with your first diagnoses lol...

    THANKS!
