Yeah, done a couple on horde on Icecrown, 25%ish from RB. Takes a while to form and most people are very geared and already have LOD.
This used to happen weekly on the old core, back on Ragnaros, certain Raid Leaders made a name for themself by hosting weekly PuGs that downed LoD every week.
The secret to their success was they had alot of friends with LoD experience; If they invited a PuG that was garbage, they could simply kick the failing player and invite a friend halfway through, and every week they used the same Strats which people got familiar with.
Unfortunately these leaders got conceited over time, reserving ridiculous amounts of loot, or even running more of a Loot-Council approach to looting, which resulted in a a few semi-legit "Ninja" claims.
Back then LK was alot different though, you could cyclone valkyrs and they're drop their players instantly, and you could bug out soulreapers by just take a single step backwards and it wouldnt get casted at all.
Frostmourne phase was a joke back then, the floor didn't exist so it was just 30 seconds of AFK falling until you get teleported back to the LK.
Oh and Vile Spirits could be typhooned, so they'd all land on the ground, dazed and slowed for someone to easily soak them all.
...Good times.
Recently though, I've not seen any PuGs who've downed LoD, even with 25 experienced players. There's too many different approaches and strategies for players to co ordinate properly together, and the fact that most PuGs don't use Voice Comms either.
And although i hate to say it, alot of un-guilded players are un-guilded for a reason. They can't commit to raid times, they lack a stable connection and lag all the time, or they just plain suck. Add in that achievements are easily sold to people buying characters on the Trade Market, and you can't really tell if what you have is 25 decent players, or mostly clueless players who got carried or bought a character with an achievement.
Also PuGs get demoralized very easily; Not only do they have limited time only, say 1-2 hours at most, they almost REQUIRE a few wipes before everyone gets on the same page.
But PuGs being PuGs, you can almost guarantee 2 people will somehow get into a flame war and blame each other after a wipe.
"OMFG NOOB TANK CAN'T TAUNT or WTF HPALA CANT HEAL TANK" leading to one or both of them leaving the raid.
Yes, its has been done on Deathwing long time ago, actually it has been done twice in a week.
