Hello I am a new player and i was wondering the best route to take to make gold fast. Im going to be playing icecrown on the horde side.
Here's what I would do if I were you.
Pick up a profession that is easy to level up/get mats and sell them on the AH when you go to cities to get your skills leveled up.
Example:
If you are a cloth user like mage, warlock, etc..
Take enchanting/tailoring. When you are killing mobs that drop linen cloth, or whatever, use it to make gear for yourself, or sell it on the AH, not to vendors. I don't know prices off the top of my head, but if a vendor buys a stack of linen for like 2 silver, you can sell it on the AH for like 40 silver or 2 gold sometimes, and more if you tailor it into bolts. Disenchanting low level greens to sell on AH to for people who don't do it themselves but are rich and level it via AH, you will make money. I recommend getting auctioneer suite and warmane AH fix and learning the AH and using it as you level. I've never had to beg for gold and always was able to pay my way up to 80. It adds time to leveling, but it's part of the game.
You can also just do gathering professions like mining/herb and just pick up all the mats you can while leveling and sell them on AH. It's not huge money, but it should provide you enough to level your skills as you level until you hit 80 and can start making real gold doing RDF/getting a prof to 450. You really need to learn how to use the AH if you want gold, and auctioneer suite makes it easier. I could go on for hours about all the info I've learned, but really you just need to figure out your own system because it also depends on your style of play and if you are cloth/leather/plate etc..
I would not recommend starting out as like a jewelcrafter or inscriptor because those mats could be harder to come by early on.
Also there's cooking/fishing that people recommend which come in handy later to for raiding, but I've never done those personally.
Just pick up loot that would sell on AH and sell it there, not to vendors and you will make a lot of gold. Auctioneer suite addon tells you what items generally can be auctioned and what should just be sold to vendors, or disenchanted for potentially more profit (enchantrix which comes with auctioneer).
If you create a mage and learn portals, you can sell portals in cities usually for decent profit. Sometimes people have tipped me 100 gold, or 10 gold, or 0 gold, but when I didn't have a profession, that was one other way to make money.
There's a lot of resources on google and these forums if you search around.
