Hi i'm interested in playing WOLK however am i too late to start, is there still people doing heroics, and starting raids to gear up (probably alts)?, would love to get back into raiding but appreciate Gear Score is king and starting late is going to be a pain. Also what classes if any are in demand?. I've played all classes before to a high level and don't really mind what i play as long as i can enjoy all aspects of pve. thanks
I'd suggest you play something that can heal or tank as an offspec because that gets you into RDF heroic nearly instantly. Warlock is probably the least played DPS class in PvE aside from Enhancement Shaman as they aren't really viable. In general though, guilds have a preference for ranged dps over melee as they can stay spread out in fights where its needed and continue to dps ofc.
it's never too late. Icecrown is so crowded that all the time ppl are leveling (personally i just dinged 80 with my mage, and lv.15->60 i was doing just with rdf spam. Also, if you are planning to play on icecrown (maybe alliance? :D ), i would lik to invite you to my small, social & helpful guild named <Class Trainer>. most of our guild members are fresh 80s, or still leveling, so you would have a nice start with anothr fresh people. If you would plan on that, let me know via ingame mail sent to "Wiseword" or "Harword". im playing on those 2 toons only.

^This. I main a melee dps and I see many more LF posts wanting RDPS than melee. When I do join RDF my queue times can be quite lengthy if I'm playing outside of peak times. But if you can tank or heal you are everyone's best friend.
So definitely join and play! As others have said, you are not too late.
I mainly play in retail but I love WotLK. I hit lv 80 4 days ago and there are plenty of people doing random normal and farming PoS, FOS and even ToC 5 normal.
Leveling to 80 was fun but there are so many campers though, especially on the horde side. >.>
I'd recommend a rogue so you can vanish from these campers whenever you want(+they're on top DPS on raids) or a druid if you like healing, tanking or ranged DPS.
