1. WHat is classed as ninjaing

So recently someone in my dungeon group needed on something they did not need as shown in the picture and i want to know if it is classed as ninja looting and if not, what is classed as ninja looting? i sent a report to a GM but he said i had too little info for him to take any action and he completely dodged the question on what ninja looting actually is. I've looked around on the forums a bit and only found what is considered ninja looting within raids.

The mage was the one who ninja looted (SEMIRAMISS), I am Muffinpuffin, the paladin.

    Thanks in before hand !

  2. Ninja action needs to have several things set in place in order to receive GM attention and action.

In the primary case, loot rules need to have been established at the beginning of a run, and agreed to by participating members. This can be as simple as "MS>OS rolls this run", or as complex as stipulating certain items being reserved, or that pugs may only roll if no guild member needs an item, or other such stipulations. If someone acts against those parameters, then they can be cited for Ninja Looting. There are typically very few suspensions/bans that I've seen result from instance runs, as no one usually establishes explicit loot rules for such things.

In another typical case, players can be cited for Ninja Looting for taking an item that they cannot technically use beyond selling to a vendor (i.e. a mage rolling on Mail gear, or a Paladin rolling on a Staff weapon). It is important to note that rolling on an item that you can physically equip is typically not considered Ninja looting. GMs may use their discretion to determine that a Warrior rolling on a spellpower/int/spirit dagger is ninja looting, but even that is not certain to be classified as Ninja. A holy paladin rolling on a spelldamage/spirit cloth piece is rarely, if ever, considered Ninja Looting, as it has a discernible benefit to that class, even if less than ideal.

The third case in which a player may be cited for Ninja Looting is the the changing of loot system to master loot in order to subvert other players chances at an item without having established beforehand that this would be the case. The obvious example of this is if the party leader sets loot to Master Looter during a boss fight in order to obtain a particular drop from that boss without anyone rolling against him or her. More typically, this might be seen if a player reserves a particular item, sets to Master Looter to retrieve that item, but takes more than that item as well without allowing for a group /roll and distributing the items respectively (or uses the master looter role to take the reserved item for him/herself, but also assigns loot to a "buddy" in the run without allowing other players to roll).

In the case of your screenshot, my non-GM opinion is that the mage in question did not violate game policy by rolling need on the item, as it is a BoE of measurable worth in the open market. As a gross generalization, BoEs are typically open rolls for all party members. It is NICE and KIND to see if anyone has need of the item for their current character, and if the party agrees to let the character have it, it is proper etiquette to immediately equip the item so as to prove it is not going to be merely sold for profit. But this is not at all necessary by the player conduct rules.

Seeing as there is no apparent discussion of the item in your party chat prior to the rolls, I would surmise that there was no indication of who should roll on such an item, and I wouldn't even fault the mage for rolling need at all, as he took that action before seeing that you rolled need on it as well.

  3. I see, this might be ironic but i just recently got banned for ninja looting.
I needed on an item that i could wield and needed cause i wanted is as transmog, i also checked to see if anyone else rolled for it as an upgrade. The only other person that needed for it did it for the same reason as i. I don't know if this is considered ninja due to it not being discussed in your post because i was planning to use it too transmog my weapon. and then a few hours later i was banned for apparent "ninja looting"
please give your thoughts on needing for transmog when no one needs it as an upgrade.

  4. The thing is there's no "needing for transmog." You want it for transmog, which automatically makes it a "greed" roll.

  5. Ok i will remember this for future scenarios.
