Problems changing resolution

Hello, everytime I try to change my game's resolution from 1024x768 to any other resolution or window mode the screen freezes but the game doesn't crash. I can still alt tab but my game screen is like an overlay and I can't see other tabs, only when I close the game that it comes to normal. Any idea why this is happening? Also my settings are resetting everytime I log in, I checked a post about it but it's still the same.
