More then often when a discussion about pvp rules is brought up, it is always revolved around open world pvp and how it is effecting their leveling. When joining a pvp server you need to understand what pvp servers mean. Complaining or simply requesting a discussion doesn't do anything because this is what a pvp world is and that doesn't change. From a previous conversation I had, I made this little guide for dealing with pvp. I hope this helps!
The basics:
- There are controlled territories and contested territories.
- If you are in an enemy controlled territory you cannot attack players not marked for pvp.
1.) Played marked for pvp are players who attacked an enemy, or supported a pvp marked character by buffing, healing, ressing, or simply being in a party with them.
- Contested territories are free game. Kill whoever whenever however at any level without restrictions.
1.) A big supporter to why we have these zones is a.) it turns this into a open world pvp game. b.) its to fit the theme of the lore.
How to handle the situation if it is giving you troubles but you still want to continue playing on the server?
- Make friends, find a guild. Maybe find some blood thirsty pvp geared dudes. Chat around a little and I am sure someone will come to your aid.
- Make a quick determination that you're going to be camped and can't do anything so take res sickness and hearth before someone notices. There are multiple zones that support leveling for the same levels. (A big one for paladins is to pop a bubble and hearth out. I recommend making a macro with the in-game macro tool.)
- If you feel like taking a risk, make a toon on the other side and send a very nice whisper to the person camping you. Kindly ask if they could stop so you could level. Sending hate mail is never a healthy way to go and almost always ends up with the enemy camping you for even longer. Most people however have a good heart and will leave you be. Don't be surprised however if they don't and don't be mad, it's a pvp server after all. :)
I love pvp servers. I love open world pvp, arena, and battlegrounds. I think it helps create great memories with friends. I remember times where I was ganked and I had to ask people for help. General, yell, trade, guild. Almost always people come and it's nice to add them to your friends list after as well. I hope you have a blast and if it's causing you too much stress then maybe a pvp world isn't right for you but just accept that over sending hate mail.
Good luck!
If you have anything to add or feel like any edits need to be made feel free to let me know!
The whole point of an old wow was the things like this. Removing these things simply destroyed the essence of wow. Frustrating to be killed by a much higher level? Sure, but thats the whole point. This isn't singleplayer game so you could play free world and expect everything to go your way. Its a simple "Strategic" game so you actually have something to worry about the whole time which makes game more challenging overall.

I completely agree. It does add a strategic experience to the game. You end up with rumors of places where leveling is easier then others and what not as well that add to the content.

It's funny that you say that, when World of Warcraft started without PvP servers, and with PvE servers being initially called "Normal" servers on top of that, making PvP ones the "odd-men-out." Removing "these things" is actually going back to how the game was meant to be at the start.

I think when he says "essence of wow" he doesn't mean it being the "normal" server but the original concept of a pvp server.

He says "essesnce of WoW" and talks about how removing these things "destroyed" that essence, so I consider he to be talking about the game, which was made of only PvE servers at the start, and the fact currently retail has no more PvP servers, which is actually going back to the actual original essence of the game, not destroying it.

The "normal" servers were still technically pvp. You just had to flag yourself for it but both were released at the same time making them both the original to my memory that is.

No, they weren't, something easily proved by the fact that they were later renamed to PvE servers.
Original wow servers did have pvp but they did not have any pvp rewards.
Having PvP isn't the same as being PvP servers.
Original servers, that later were called Normal servers (because of the introduction of PvP ones), and then later renamed to PvE (because... I guess strictly PvPers didn't like not being "normal" for the game?), are essentially what retail went back to now, by being PvE with optional opt-in PvP, which was the actual "essence of WoW."

Literally saying the same thing. I just wanted to point out that these old Normal server did have pvp whether they were called pvp or pve.
If "being a PvP server" and "having PvP in a PvE server" were "literally the same thing" this thread wouldn't exist.
I just remember back then when pvp servers were released the "normal" servers were called PvPvE and yes you're right. This thread would not exist but that was not the point I was getting at just now.

The point you were getting at, as stated, is that those two things were literally saying the same thing, which they aren't. Unless when you erroneously say two different things are literally the same you have some hidden point being made?

No, no, no. x) You have got it all wrong and please do mind the aggressive voice. This is not a discussion to get upset about.
What I mean is that we both agree about the names of those servers however with names aside, the original wow servers did in-fact have open world pvp.
