I've made this thread for the sole purpose to shed some light on the topic "rolling on lockboxes in dungeons". So far I've encountered various threads, where people weren't exactly sure what the procedure was or gave contradictory answers, and since I had a dispute with a person recently, I've decided to contact a GM and go to the bottom of this once and for all.
Before I continue, I would like to remind the general rule regarding "needing"/"greeding" gear in dungeons:
- We select "NEED" for items, which offer an upgrade to our current spec;
- We select "GREED" for items, which we use for secondary needs - like making a profit by selling them to a vendor or sending them to an alt, in order to disenchant them (if the said item is a BoE), or using them for an offspec.
But this rule regards the gear items. And now here's the answer to the question you've been waiting for. What are we allowed to do with the lockboxes in dungeons? What is the GMs' stance on this topic? And the answer is - we may roll NEED on them.
Proof:
{please ignore the "P.S." part, as it's irrelevant to this post}
And in order to prove those words even more, our dear moderator Palutena decided to help us by contacting the head GM himself. This was his/her answer:

So, here you have it. Use this information well! I hope more people come here and read this post, so that they know the truth. If some of you stumble upon someone, who isn't aware of this rule yet, and you feel bad for them, you could offer a reroll or talk about it at the very beginning of the dungeon run. You won't get banned for selecting NEED for the lockboxes, but you can be the better person and don't put them at disadvantage. Like I've said, use this information well!
Big thanks to the staff for the assistance - that goes to Palutena, Octantis, Aldtharios and Toxicpink!
