End of season question

Hi guys, very new here, and not really sure I fully understand things... I did have a look around, but couldn't seem to find what I needed to know. Probably right under my nose.

So just started yesterday, and planning on have a quick blast through with my friend for old times sake.

I was just in SW earlier and saw people talking about the end of season on 15th April. So I asked what it meant...

One guy messaged me, but it seemed English wasn't his first language and I didn't fully understand what he was saying in relation to how the "end of season" works.

Can someone just break it down for me in layman's terms. i.e. what it means for us as two new people just starting out, and what impacts it has going forward.

The seasons thing its something that affects only the Frostmourne server, on the 15th of April its gonna get wiped of characters to start over (we dont know when), so you better start playing either on Lordaeron (1x rates, exp/gold/items) or in Icecrown (7x exp, 3x gold/items).
