1. A discussion on GS vs the raid

The title says it all. This referring to the Icecrown Server as it is my only experience. Getting to your 5k gear score solo is easy enough, then after that it is toxic pugs or you have to guild, due to the crazy GS requirements for any PUG, while wanting to be the par GS for the whole instance AT THE LEAST. Did Classic WOTLK ruin this server? every forum post I read a few months ago stated how toxic Classic was for it's GS requirements vs raid content, but this particular server just seems terrible on trying to get past that toxic 5-5.5K gap in GS and just being worse than what classic is now.

  2. man i’m going through the same right now with a buddy of mine

stuck in that 4.9-5.4k gs ****hole even though we’re well geared and informed (i.e. rotations, raid awareness)

do let us know if you do find a guild to accommodate this (i.e. icc 10 nm)

  3. You'll pretty much have to make friends with the right people or host your own pugs and heavily filter who joins in that gear range on Icecrown.

  4. Did Classic WOTLK ruin this server?
No. Insane GS requirements on PUG's predates WotLK classic by at least a decade.

5 - 5.5K GS is the ****ty gearing bracket without a guild backing you up. You don't/hardly need ToC 25 gear, you're "too low" for ICC. Yet both raids wants you to be 5.5K GS or so. EoT grind is largely over, some upgrades may be here or there in Frozen Halls, but damn the RNG loot.

  5. That "toxic gap" is just a cutoff where you have to have cooperation of other players. Can't solo farm anymore. It simply switches from RPG to MMORPG.

Your problem is the consequence of huge population, where "random pug dude" is worthless trash with no hope to gain some "reputation" on realm, no matter how good you are. It's just a grey mass of crying randoms and you are one of them with no distinction from the next random guy.

So you make or join your own little circle of people - guild, where you can slowly sift out decent players from all that squirming cesspool.

  6. Make like 10 characters, create your own guild join semi g-run's etc, go into multiple raidguilds raids as a "pug" but with your own guild. Build up reputation for your guild by simply being your own alter egos, i did that myself for fun, was pretty effective. Obviously 1 of each class and each class on every spec, so it's not obvious.

  7. Tired of PUGs wanting 5.5k+ gs for toc & icc? Hmm... Host your own raid and start taking fellow 5k gs players and see how are you going to preform. Maybe find a guild or idk socialize and make friends that would want to raid with you? You know this game wasn't intended for solo players and gear magically finding his way into your bags, but for socializing and overcoming challenges together. Kappa such discussions even exist.
