1. What to expect for TBC ? (population and players types, wpvp, economy ...)

Hey people. I recently joined Onyxia for the perspective of an evolutive TBC (and WotLK) server, and quite enjoyed the trip to 60 even though I wouldn't have minded a slower xp gain.

However, I reached 60 on my main char, and now I really feel that I'm late to the party.
Getting ganked quite a bit (I don't like wpvp much, suck, and am ungeared), but such is life.
I also realize that MANY people are heavily farming gold and mats to prepare for BC, like HEAVILY. Multiboxing, rushing armies of alts for professions cds ...

All of which I understand. But I worry that it will make the server too hardcore for my taste. If everyone has tons of free time, an army of alts and multiboxers, and is enjoying ganking 24/7, I feel that with my lateness to the server, moderate ( or less ?) playtime, and lack of pvp skills, I wouldn't be able to do much.
    > getting killed left and right if we are all (+ returning players for TBC) crammed into outland
    > no way to compete with "pro" farmers and bots for mats / AH, so unable to catch up with rich Vanilla players
    > potentially, no way to get back into pve calmly if most groups have a low/non existant tolerance for less "involved" or "tryhard" players

So as I don't know the server and its players, I'd like to get input from others about what to expect, "feel"-wise, about the server for the future.
I read the term "dad server" thrown around on reddit, I guess I'm looking for a "dad friendly" server.

Not a rant or whine, mind you, I'm not here to try and change anything, only to try and determine if I should stick around because I'll fit in (even though clearly not among the top dogs) or if maybe I should better try and find a less intense server ?

    Thanks for any input :)

  2. Just roll Horde. There's NO point in rolling Alliance if they're not going to balance the factions. They're not going to turn off Gank Mode - it's one of the hallmarks of Warmane - even the GM's spawn-camp you on their characters.

From what I've heard GM's are not even allowed to play on this server.

  4. it's like that on every warmane server, you just get used to it. and don't approach wpvp and pvp in general with the mentality that you shouldn't die, that if you die then you suck and should quit, or worse that your ego takes over. every pvp loss should be a learning experience where you review the combat log and each action/reaction by your opponent. this is how you become better at pvp and especially arenas.

best advice i can give, is tribe up with a pvp-centric guild for the initial 60-70 leveling where you stay at least paired up for questing, and doing RDF. then at 70 branch off to a pve guild if that's your focus. my personal focus is pvp, and i will stay with my pvp guild until the end. i'm alliance btw.

  5. I also realize that MANY people are heavily farming gold and mats to prepare for BC, like HEAVILY. Multiboxing, rushing armies of alts for professions cds ...
There is nothing else to be done for people which around way longer. Dont think about it, cause there is no way to catch up with someone who is playing for nine months here - and at the end of the day it doesnt even matter that much for TBC.

    1. No reasonable person is gonna do normal quests at the release, youll most likely have 10k players day1-5, with only one shared starting leveling zone. Find yourself a bunch of buddies or a guild and grind dungeons till 70, its better. You get the rep you need, you cant get ganked, and you leave the quests for later to make the most gold out of them.
    2. Depending on your skill level and time available, you will be more or less competing against them. At the end of the day those mentioned people are at best 1% of the realm, with everyone else being more or less average players. So if your goal is to be 1%, yes, you most likely wont catch up money wise - but outside of that there is no reason to feel left behind, the economy was pretty solid and every average player could afford his stuff previously with moderate activity.
    3. There is plenty of average/casual guilds around, you just gotta find one and reach a common understanding of what you want and what you can offer. E.g. Alliance has 1 HC guild, 3-5 Semi HC guilds, and the rest are all average/casual/social, so plenty of people to play with no matter how much experience/time you might feel you are lacking.

So as I don't know the server and its players, I'd like to get input from others about what to expect, "feel"-wise, about the server for the future.

I assume you can call it "dad server", and a very pleasant one too. As long as you dont quit looking for likely minded people, youll have plenty of fun - trust me :)

  6. i feel like u could join friendly casual guild and have fun. who cares about dudes having 9 alts farming 18 hours a day? Leave them be

  7. Just roll Horde. There's NO point in rolling Alliance if they're not going to balance the factions. They're not going to turn off Gank Mode - it's one of the hallmarks of Warmane - even the GM's spawn-camp you on their characters.
    What?
Are you talking about the wrong server?

I don't understand what you mean by "I wouldn't be able to do much"... The new expansion will launch, you will level up to 70. Farm up your pre-raid BiS and get your attunements done. And you will join a Raiding Guild of your choosing!

Do you need 30k gold to do that ? -No
Do you need to have raided Vanilla PVE content ? -No
Do you need to have done Vanilla PVP ? -No

TBC is just around the corner. When TBC launches:
    - All the gear Vanilla players have gathered will for the most part only serve them for to level up a bit faster
    - All the gold Vanilla players have gathered will for the most part only serve them to get their craftables a bit faster
    - All the PVP Vanilla players have done will for the most part only serve them to get into Arenas a bit faster

There is nothing to "catch up" to. None of the things the people who have played on this server for the past nine months will really matter when TBC hits, if your real desire is Casual PVE.

Just roll Horde. There's NO point in rolling Alliance if they're not going to balance the factions. They're not going to turn off Gank Mode - it's one of the hallmarks of Warmane - even the GM's spawn-camp you on their characters.
As for this comment... this guy is clearly a troll from some other Private server who is trying to smear Warmane's reputation. None of what he is saying is true. Warmane is the most professional Private server team I've ever encountered. They have and they will take measures to balance out Factions if such measures are necessary. Nuf said.

They had to disable Horde character creation last time they hosted a TBC server. Their own actions "smeared" their reputation. I'm just hoping to raise the alarm loud enough to prevent this mistake from happening again. And yes, it was a mistake to allow such faction imbalances, according to Warmane's own corrective actions.

Every single thing I said was actually true, bud.

Then you're doubling down on claiming that "even the GM's spawn-camp you on their characters" and I have no reason to not tell you to go lie elsewhere.

you are getting ganked? by who and where? what class do you play? if players are killing you because you are "not good" at wow then get better and gank them, q bgs get yourself some gear? if you are getting farmed i understand the issue but even then ask someone for help, ask your guild? what class do you play? im interested in knowing.

  12. Thanks for the replies, it's kinda reassuring :)

Reminder that this is not a rant or anything.

My assumption was that, if the players that I observed the last few days (really on the "tryhard" side, or "dedicated" if you prefer) composed a significant portion of the server, I would not be able to play how I enjoyed it back in 2006 (when most people weren't optimizing things nearly as much as now).

    IE
if "everyone" has multiple alts, profession toons, or even bot farmers, in addition to thousands of gold in bank, the economy will be skewed.
if "everyone" farms many hours per day, then a way more casual player won't really be efficient in trying to compete
if "everyone" is very skilled and eager to wpvp, someone who has no taste or skill for it will have a particularly hard time going out in outland.

Back then, I didn't encounter these issues (also because I played on PvE server, but heh, not much choice right now on the private server scene ...)

According to you guys, this won't be as big an issue as I believed. Plenty of less "dedicated" players around, so I should find a place somewhere "inside the curve" (ideally not at the far end ...)

    Thanks again.

Ah, also : dwarf hunter, green questing gear. I tried a bit of BG but really got torn to pieces. Not really fair for my teammates (or myself, or even the opposition if they look for a fun fight and not a stomp)
I never really did the vanilla dungeons, so avoided doing them rn, but I should, I suppose. I still remember BC ones so I'm confident I will be able to pull my weight in them, so I should be able to at least reach that "somewhat pre bis" step, and then not be so behind gear-wise that I could also do some decent BGs.

Thanks again for your replies, see you around.

  13.
