Greetings, I’m Nadolol (main Metoprolol) that played in Passione/Illusion/Argent Dawn on Lordaeron, and I’m here to Guide you through my favorite PVP Spec – The Prot Paladin! I found Prot Paladin PVP to be the most fun and one of the strongest specs to play if you’re Hungry to get your PVP Helmets/Gear via the Soloq. Prot PVP = Absolute beast!
1. Strengths:
I. Pretty much counters every melee in the Game. Skilled DKs will try to kite you, but with your Seal of Light + Judgement of Justice you can counter heal the damage quite easily and close the gap.
II. Very good support for your Teammates via Freedoms, Sacred Shield, Hand of Protection, Dispels, Divine Sacrifice & Auras.
III. Very High Sustained Damage
IV. Goes well with 95% of Comps, especially if Disco priest is your Healer
V. Great Survivability & OpenWorld dominance
2. Weaknesses:
I. Lack of Instant Strong self-heals compared to Retri or Preg
II. Squishy vs Strong caster comps Like Ele Destro Boomkin.
III. 1v1 vs. healer can be tough due to Lack of Interrupts and burst.
IV. Fear good mages and Shadow priests 1v1. Everything else is easy for us!
3. Talents
I’ve found the talents pictured to be the most versatile for my playstyle. But there is always room for you to change as you please.
Talents that are good to switch around:
1. Reckoning
2. Conviction
3. Improved Devotion Aura
4. Crusade
All other talents serve a purpose and will have a large In-game impact if changed, but I suggest you Test around as you please.
4. Glyphs:
I. Salvation – Absolutely fantastic soft def that makes a huge impact on Survival.
II. Divine Plea – Divine plea should have a nearly 100% uptime, thus the decreased damage taken pays off immensely.
III. Seal of Vengeance/Avengers Shield/Hammer of Justice. – Up to you which one you choose. When I did my first 2k Push I used Avengers Shield in order to have more controlled single Target silences, but I found that Seal of Vengeance is fantastic as well to avoid getting parried and Avengers shield hitting multiple targets can be very strong when comps tend to be stacked on top of each other. The choice is yours!
IV. Minor: Sense undead for 1% more dmg, Blessing of Kings, Lay on hands (or whatever u want)
I. Judgement of Light or Judgement of Justice. This depends on if you’re peeling to protect your Teammates or if the target is close by OR if you’re in a 1v1 situation. Using Judgement of Justice in the correct situations will be the deciding factor of a Win or Lose VERY OFTEN!
II. Hammer of the Righteous: Will be your top dmg thumper together with your Seal in most cases. Use it often and try to time it nicely during a CC open kill opportunity.
III. Avengers Shield: The absolute might of the PVP Prot. Can (and should be) used to Focus silence a healer (sometimes tough ranges like boomkins or mages) in order to open up a kill window or to relieve your team from CC and damage pressure. Master this time window and you will win.
IV. Shield of the Righteousness: More of a filler damage when all is on CD and you don’t need to dispel or support.
V. Holy Shield: Fantastic vs. Melees especially when they focus you.
VI. Consecration: Nice as additional damage, but should be low on your prio due to the fact that it consumes a lot of mana and thus can drain you. Nice to give rogues a hard time, kill hunter snakes or when the enemy team is stacked to add some pressure. Use with caution because it can break sensitive CCs from mages and hunters (and don’t forget that mana thing I mentioned)!
VII. Hammer of Wrath: Nice finisher damage with decent range.
VIII. Holy Wrath: Great to use vs. Warlock pets and DKs that activate Lichborne because it stuns them.
IX. Divine Plea: Should be activated while going in so that you have reduced damage taken and your mana keeps flowing in. Don’t spam it on cooldown if you’re CCd, use it when you’re back on target so that it auto-refreshes.
X. Hand of Salvation: Great self def! Use it when being focused or during a Bladestorm. Also, can be used when heavy DK aoe comes in, in order to relieve your healer bit.
XI. Cleanse: CLEANSE YOUR TEAMATES! Especially Repentance, Fear, Poly and Hunter Traps!
XII. Avenging Wrath: Use with caution. Only when a kill window opens and they do not focus you. Remember that it prevents you from Divine Shielding for a short period of time.
XIII. Sacred Shield: Use this on your teammates. Especially on priests or Warriors.
XIV. Hand of Freedom: Again, use this to support your healers if they are focused so that they can escape. A good combo is: Hand of freedom your healer and Judgement of Justice the Player that is chasing them.
XV. Hammer of Justice: I like to have this as a /focus Macro and stun the enemy healer to open up a kill window or to add pressure.
XVI. Divine Protection & Divine Shield: Decide carefully which one to use. Both are great and your decision should depend on if the enemy has a disco spamming mass dispels on you or not!
XVII. Seal of Light: Fantastic to use on a 1v1 situation vs a dps because the self heal is great.
XVIII. Seal of vengeance: Your main seal! You love it, you need it, you use it!
XIX. Dsac & Handsac: Use these when heavy damage comes in on your teammates or if a rogue/mage/hunt are trying to CC you.
XX. Blessing of Sanctuary is your main buff used on yourself. Can also be used on your melee teammates when going vs other melee comps.
XXI. Hand of Protection: Save someone when needed, especially vs melees.
7. Playstyle:
I. You learn by playing! Go and do duels, OpenWorld pvp and arenas. Don’t expect to become an amazing player without doing 100+ matches. Just don’t give up!
II. Watch replays from the top players, and check how they play & watch your own to see how you can improve.
III. Open with your Judgement (Have divine plea going), get some damage going with Hammer of the Righteous and see what your teammates are doing.
IV. Your priority should be to support 1. Your healer with dispels, 2. Your other dps with freedoms, Sacrifice and dispels. The prot damage is insane already passively, so don’t worry about it.
V. Sacred Shield usage on your healer in pre lobby is always a good choice. If a hunter/warrior/mage/disco priest is on your team, chances are they will get focused. Sacred shield and support them!
VI. Dispel counter spells and Strangulates ALWAYS
VII. I have a weak aura for poly and repentance + traps. Instant dispel these and you must anticipate them.
VIII. Handsac/Dsac when enemy CDs are used, this is essential!
IX. If you are focused: Always be near your healer and use your environment as your advantage. E.g pillar behind when casters are bursting you, get healed & support your team with dispels.
X. Focus stun (usually the healer) and go for the kill!
8. Macros:
I. Judgement macro
#showtooltip Judgement of Light
/startattack
/cast judgement of Light
/use 10
Focus Hammer of Justice
#showtooltip Hammer of Justice
/cast [target=focus] Hammer of Justice
/startattack
I. Weakauras – I have CC that is dispellable on my Teammates blended in. Also I have an alert when enemy warriors have Spell Deflect up.
II. Gladius
III. Vuhdu for Raid and Partyframes
IV. Soundalerter & Spellalerter
V. Action bar saver + Talented
10. Tipps:
I. Don’t Hesitate with your Hand of Protection on your Teammates. Especially if its double melee trying to burst someone on your team. (Don’t use during pain suppression in most cases. Priests tend to get mad)
II. Use your Sacrifices!
III. Hand of Freedom on your teammates is essential.
IV. Dispel dispel dispel!
V. Peeling for your Healer wins more matches than brainless running in and hoping for a kill.
VI. Test around with your talents and gear and use what works for you.
VII. You will have good days and bad days. Don’t let a lose streak demotivate you. Just get fresh the next day and go in!
VIII. Learn from your mistakes. Don’t listen to toxic chat if it’s not constructive criticism/feedback.
IX. Always stay in melee range for that passive big seal damage + Divine plea uptime.
X. You will learn what to do with what comps vs certain comps with time. Rule of thumb is to take control and check who your teammates are focusing.
XI. Don’t be toxic in the chat. Does nothing and helps nobody to get better.
XII. Have fun & be a BEAST!
