I have 1550 resilience and im getting mad damage dealt to me as example over 10K ferocious bite from a feral druid etc .
Whats even the point getting anything above 1K then

Yes, it works.
No, it does not mean you won't get hit hard, especially if you are a cloth wearer.
Yes what your are wearing plate, clothes matter but resi actually really reduce the damage made be crit. I'm assuming 10k is a crit otherwise it's 'll mean fdrood are overbroken. 1k resi reduce by 23% the damage made by critical strike (yes it's not the real number, it's something like 22,2...%). Just put your mouse on resi on your main and read the second effect. (they are 3 effects of resi).
Then you have to look at your opponents if he is under zerk, buff, pve gear,...
I have my own guess about resi.
