Proposal: Implementing Ability Cooldown Reset After Boss Kill/Wipe in TBC Raids
Proposal: Implementing Ability Cooldown Reset After Boss Kill/Wipe in TBC Raids
Core Proposal:
Introduce an automatic ability cooldown (CD) reset with the following conditions:
After killing a boss – Immediate full CD reset for all raid members.
After a wipe:
Combat must have lasted ?30 seconds (prevents abuse on early wipes).
Proven Success in WOTLK Classic:
This exact system was implemented in Wrath of the Lich King Classic and became:
? Beloved by hardcore raiders – Faster progression, more attempts per night.
? Praised by casual players – Reduced frustration, fairer for learning groups.
? Universally praised as one of the best QoL changes in classic WoW.
Implementation Rules:
? Global unlock:
Enabled for all players simultaneously after the first weekly reset following raid release.
Disabled during the first week to maintain progression integrity.
Why This Improves TBC Raiding:
For Hardcore Raiders:
? Faster progression – More pulls/hour, less downtime.
? Clean testing – Experiment with comps/tactics without CD penalties.
? Fairness – No more "CD tax" for early mistakes.
For Casual/Guild Groups:
?? Reduced frustration – New players won’t dread wiping.
?? Better learning – More reps on hard phases = faster skill growth.
?? Respects time – Less waiting, more playing.
For the Server Health:
? Retains players – Improves raid experience without reducing difficulty.
? Proven stability – Already works flawlessly in WOTLK Classic.
? Zero downsides – No balance impact, purely QoL.
Technical Notes:
Server performance neutral (triggers only on kill/wipe).
Compatible with all classes/specs.
Vote "YES" if you support:
Bringing a successful WOTLK Classic feature to TBC.
Quality-of-life improvements that respect classic gameplay.
Saving hours of wasted time over a raid tier.
"This isn’t making the game easier – it’s making it less annoying."
Yes, it was introduced by Blizzard and it was an amazing innovation.
It was done to pamper babies playing on older expansions.
Onyxia is progressive realm, so having all CD's each fight feels easy mode. No long CD skill would feel like having a cost to do it, which they should, thus the long CD.
Zero downsides? Cooldowns, repair costs, travelling back to the instance, etc were introduced by Blizzard to make wipes costly. Removing the cost of wipes changes part of the game.
Played a year on a server that implemented this successfully. It was enjoyable, so I definitely would support this.
People who would afk for cds anyway don't have to do it and prolong raid times uselessly, also promotes faster pacing, good overall.
Sadly, I don't think warmane likes changes, and when they do it requires huge pushes, so good luck.
I apologize for my limited English skills (I'm a Russian-speaking player), so I'm using both a translator and AI chat to communicate properly. This helps me express my thoughts clearly and understand your responses. Thanks for your patience!
It's not about "modern design" but respecting players' time: yes, it's a 2009 game, but waiting for cooldowns was never "intended difficulty" – just a technical limitation. Only pointless downtime is removed.
That's not true. It wasn't a technical limitation. There was nothing stopping them from resetting the cooldowns. They didn't do it because they didn't feel it was good for the game.
It's only pointless if you make it pointless. Maybe use the "pointless" downtime to actually learn and discuss tactics. I mean a wipe usually happens because of mistakes or weak performance.
Most likely, back in 2007, the developers simply didn’t think of this or didn’t see much point in it. This mechanic (CD reset) was reimagined by the time WOTLK Classic came out (at least I remember it being added there), and the majority of players loved it.
It’s 2025 now, and time is the most valuable resource. If we can save even a couple of minutes without breaking the game’s integrity, why not?
If we’re comparing the original 2007 version to today, I’m pretty sure you yourself use tactics from Wowhead or similar sites. After all, no one forces you to figure out boss mechanics blindly like in the old days.
By the way, if you don’t mind, could you link your Onyxia armory? Maybe you don’t even play there

Tactics can be discussed right after a wipe - no need to stretch it over 5 minutes of waiting. Weak gameplay is improved through practice, not downtime. 10 meaningful attempts in an evening teach more than 5 attempts with smoke breaks. Or do you truly believe players productively use those 5 minutes rather than just AFKing in a corner?
Of course, everyone has their own opinion - yours and mine differ in this case, and that's normal. I'm just trying to explain why this is a useful change, not just blindly clinging to 'that's how it was before, so that's how it should be.' After all, even in Classic we've long been using addons, guides and other conveniences that didn't exist in 2007.

What a you even talkn about? Who wipes in post-nerf raids anyway?
This is exclusively for guilds that play for results. I donated to this project for quality and convenience. TBK with 2 specializations, pathfinder and you a talking about 2007, but then there was no such thing as DBM, WA and other addons. All this is done exclusively for convenience and saving time. Now top 20 guilds play for logs(uwu) and in order not to wait 20 minutes before the boss to make a 99+ log, this would be an equally pleasant and convenient solution. Now it is physically impossible to go with two characters in an evening, because many wait for CD for 5-10 minutes before each boss. Damn, I'm ready to pay not to waste time.
As far as I remember, this was done in TBC and Blizzard rolled out a blue post on this topic, and it was about boss Muru, who in the pre-nerf version required heroism/bl. The raiders had no choice but to wait for the cooldown. And later Blizzard reset all abilities, seeing how this positively affected raiding.
Long cd means you can use it once per fight. Anything else outside of combat is a waste of time. You talk about the punishment for wiping, but the only punishment in wiping is running from graveyard.
I dnt understand your arguments. Mb because in my raid there are no wipes, I just wait for the shaman to restore his totem before next boss.
