Wait... what?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trinity_(nuclear_test)
They had tested the nuclear missiles before the dropped them, but they did not test them in a combat situation. They had no clue if the Little Boy would even work, it worked vastly different then Fat Man. Trinity site used the same method of explosion as Fat Man, if i remember correctly the Fat Man was plutonium and Little boy was uranium, and they both had different firing mechanisms, implode versus gun type.
When I talk about it
it carries on
reasons only knew
when I talk about it
aries or treasons
all renew
Big me to talk about it
I could stand to prove
if we can get around it
I know that it's true
When I talked about it
carried on
reasons only knew
but it's you I fell into

Sorry should have clarified. They didn't have public tests, of course they tested it privately. They never gave Japan a warning or demonstration, they just dropped it.
Dunno why you're talking about bomb designs...
According to u.s. ap history books,
the emperor refused to surrender after being warned of the bombs.
The u.s. requested again for a surrender after the first bomb, Japan refused.
The u.s. dropped #2 (pun intended) and then received a surrender.
Once again, according to the history books.
just what that NatGeo documentary told me some months ago XD
I can't determine the legitimacy, but America had apparently practically drowned Japan with leaflets reading to the citizens (before the bombing):
"Read this carefully as it may save your life or the life of a relative or friend. In the next few days, some or all of the cities named on the reverse side will be destroyed by American bombs. These cities contain military installations and workshops or factories which produce military goods. We are determined to destroy all of the tools of the military clique which they are using to prolong this useless war. But, unfortunately, bombs have no eyes. So, in accordance with America's humanitarian policies, the American Air Force, which does not wish to injure innocent people, now gives you warning to evacuate the cities named and save your lives. America is not fighting the Japanese people but is fighting the military clique which has enslaved the Japanese people. The peace which America will bring will free the people from the oppression of the military clique and mean the emergence of a new and better Japan. You can restore peace by demanding new and good leaders who will end the war. We cannot promise that only these cities will be among those attacked but some or all of them will be, so heed this warning and evacuate these cities immediately."
You said a practice explosion that they didn't know if it would work, and the only explosion they were not sure if it would work or not was the little boy.
Not sure how private it is when they tested it in the dark and it lit up the sky like the sun, and it was in like every newspaper across the nation. Kind of hard to not notice something like that and report it to news stations and news papers.
