I'll try to be as brief and concise as possible.
When you have a target selected, pressing the Escape key should deselect the target. When no target is selected, another press of the Esc key should then open the game menu. On Warmane, and only on Warmane, it will both deselect the target and open the game menu at the same time.
Addons are not the culprit, and the game install/files are not related either (using the same WoW install in a different private server the Esc key behaves as it should).
Nothing I have tried worked to solve this: disabling addons, deleting cache, using /reload command, changing keybinds... nothing fixes this.
Other people have noticed this too, but no one has found any solution.

there is a workaround: type /Reload anytime you log a character
Edit: nvm, it seems it does not work anymore

I have noticed the ESC key is not the problem, it appears that the problem lays on the "Toggle Game Menu" function itself. Well, yeah, it's obvious enough.
My temporary fix has been creating a /cleartarget macro, bind that to Esc, then bind Toggle Game Menu to something else (shift + ESC) which kinda sucks but alas. I really wish this could be fixed, it's so weird that it only happens on Warmane.
